It's coming right for us! – Tue, 26 Jun 2012
Reader Deb LaValley has had her eye on this bob-tailed squirrel for a while now – and she finally got a photo of him! “The tail does not seem to be an injury,” LaValley said, “but a birth defect of some kind. Perhaps the squirrel gene pool is a wee bit stagnant in the small wooded area behind my parents’ house. We call it the ‘Squabbit’ because it hops like a bunny.” Thanks for the pic, Deb!
Schools are out, pools are in
Concord is home to seven – count ’em, seven – public pools. That may seem like a lot, and it is. Recreation Director David Gill told us that he believes Concord to be the only city of its size in New England, and perhaps the United States, with that many pools. But, he said, having a swimming pool within walking distance of every neighborhood in Concord is vital to the quality of life of our residents. We can’t help but agree. Many of...
The case of the planted pic
Dear Ball and Chain,For weeks, I suspected that my girlfriend was going through my cell phone when I wasn't paying attention, no doubt checking pictures and text messages for any signs of straying on my part. Well, it worked – sort of. She found...

Ever eat a burger that's as big as a house? We have!
The Food Snob is no fuddy duddy. Sometimes eating traditional menu items from familiar restaurants isn't quite enough to get the Snob juices flowing. We need excitement, people! To that end, there are many food-based celebrations the Snob enjoys. Generally any event with a suffix such as “fair” or “palooza” is sure to draw our attention. And fests. We love fests. Also, we love burgers. So when the Barley...

City Briefly
Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell jumps into one of Concord's seven public pools, swims to the bottom and holds his breath. We pull him out, lay him on a towel and lean over to give him CPR.
