Instagram photo of the week – Tue, 25 Feb 2014

It’s difficult to believe anyone could be shoveling into the wee hours of the night given the mild and dry winter we’ve had, especially recently, but this image from Instagram user @charcole7 seems to show someone and his shadow doing just that. As @charcole noted in the Instagram caption, too bad this dude couldn’t help out. Want to see your picture in the newspaper? It’s easy – just tag us when you post. We’re...

Classic Concord photo – Tue, 25 Feb 2014

Reader Clayton Higgins dropped this gem by the Insider office. That sweet paint job is a reproduction of the cover of a ‘Fire Engineering’ issue from 1967 done by John Forrestal, which Fire Chief Earl Giles received permission to use on a car in the fire prevention unit. Make way for some tech-minded ladies

NHTI will host the second annual Girls Technology Day, an initiative of the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Career Development Bureau, on March 19. Last year, demand far outstripped the capacity of the fledgling program, so this year’s event has been expanded to accommodate the 300 girls who are registered to attend. “In New Hampshire, as in other states, there is a severe shortage of women pursuing technical careers,” says...

MV students have DC trip postponed

So there were Anna McFarlin and Dakota Shedd, all set for a sweet weekend trip to Washington, D.C., when the worst winter of all time reared its ugly head again (winter rankings approximate.) But snow wound up canceling their flight, and they weren’t able to rebook in time to make an appearance. All is...

Do the neighborly thing and shovel a small path through the snow

Concord has created a monster. Not the mallet-wielding hulk we recommended to create more parking spaces downtown (meter expired? Sorry, Parking Man must smash and consume your vehicle), but an equally-vexing creature. And one that does its damage in a particularly striking way. By doing absolutely nothing. The city is generous enough to plow its sidewalks following snowstorms, using funky-looking snowblower/tractor machines to clear...

As promised, here are the answers to the Granite State Challenge quiz

Last week, we introduced you to the Granite State Challenge Team from Concord High School, which charged all the way into the round of 16 before getting toppled by Portsmouth Christian Academy. We got...

A Bishop Brady alum won this red bow, and the car that comes with it

Bishop Brady High School and Grappone teamed up to give away a brand-new Ford Focus last Monday afternoon, the culmination of a raffle to aid the Brady tuition assistance fund. Tickets were just $10, which is less than the average price of a new car, according to Kelley Blue Book. Sadly, although dozens of hopefuls crowded the Grappone Ford lobby in hopes of hearing their name called Monday, none of them did. The winner was in...
