OMG we went to Germany lol – Tue, 09 Oct 2012
Students from Concord High School’s German American Partnership Program took the Insider with them to Cologne, Germany. Here they are with students from CHS’s sister school, the Maximilian Kolb Gymnasium. Classic Concord photo – Tue, 09 Oct 2012
We’re going to go out on a limb and say that you really ought to be able to identify this aviator who stopped in Concord back in 1927. Here’s a hint: “famous aviator.” “1927.” That should be enough. Send your guesses to news@theconcordinsider.com.

Influx of musicians leaves CHS short on uniforms
When Concord High School senior Kaitlyn Kelleher dons her band uniform every week, it doesn't carry the same thrill it used to.In fact, by her own admission, it's a little pathetic.Concord saw a monstrous growth in band this year, with nearly 40 new members. That's good. What's not so good is that the influx of bodies created a shortage of uniforms to outfit those bodies. Faced with a decision to dress half the team in...
On the hunt for 'shrooms with an expert mycologist
Want to go hunting for wild mushrooms to eat? Here is some good advice: Have adequate knowledge to correctly identify edible mushrooms, or go mushrooming with someone who does. In early September, I went on a mushroom foray sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of Concord with our guide, Reta MacGregor, a mushroom expert. When MacGregor was a teen, she was given a book about mushrooms. This started her on a path to study...

Even when Jill Gelinas was decked out in pink and marching in the Making Strides walk several years ago, she'd be the first to admit she was something of a passive participant.Never again.Gelinas was diagnosed with breast cancer just days before her 47th birthday this spring, and though she's still dueling her way through a bout of chemotherapy, she and her team of nearly 25 walkers will take part in the annual event this...

Lula’s Peeps carry on their leader’s memory
Lula Knouse was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 38. It was her first year participating in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Her husband’s coworkers at TDS Telecommunications organized a team called Lula’s Walkers, and they raised $1,900. The following year, Lula took over the team, changing the name to Lula’s Peeps. A fitting name for a lady who was all about the people around her. She was the first to ask how...
