Young love

Sophie Brandt, age 9 Do you have a boyfriend? “Some people in our school like to date. Some people in third grade do but I’m not one of them.” How do you tell someone you love them? “They...

No naan for you, Food Snob
Dear Insiders,Read with interest, as always, the Food Snob's “Culinary Journey through Egypt.”Think about your suggestion regarding the serving of pita bread. It's from the Middle East, as is Egypt (poor, distressed country in upheaval), so it is entirely correct and why it was served.Naan, delicious as it might be, is from India which is some distance away, actually on another continent. It might have been tastier...

The Grammarnator has recently had difficulty sending e-mail to The Insider, but the problem was solved last week. Here are a few belated items for which his fans have no doubt been waiting. One devoted reader submits this quandary: A salesperson says, “You get a rebate for free with that.” Is this correct? Shouldn't it simply be “You get a rebate free with that” or even “You get a free rebate with...

Free love advice from a lawyer!
Maybe it's because we didn't get enough love as little Insiders, but if you're anything like us, you know Valentine's Day is less about romance and more about mocking those out on romantic dates with their fancy-shmancy chocolates and overpriced champagne. And, since misery loves company, who better than to speak to this time of year than a porce attorney? Concord lawyer Heather Krans was happy to oblige. What are some...
I'm no dancing king
Dear Casper and Bill,My fiancee and I are engaged to be married next summer. We've having a big traditional wedding – something I'm a little nervous about, as I don't like big crowds. I'm particularly terrified by the prospect of dancing in front of hundreds of people, many of whom I don't know. My fiancee wants me to take dancing lessons, but I feel foolish. Would it be rude of me not to dance at our...

Seeking donations
When did Tom Aspell find the time to write the city memo this week? We assumed he would be busy on the lecture circuit or off sequestered in a cabin somewhere writing his memoirs. I mean, he won “Best Smile” at Dancing with the Concord Stars! He must be in high demand right now. And to think he was able to accomplish all that with his slugabed dancing partner who is totally dead to us now. gimme those skatesThe Recreation...
