Fun at West Street Ward House
Earlier this fall, I was traveling up West Street and saw a sign for the new Centennial Senior Center. I was bemused. Not because the seniors had a place to once again call their own, but because the “new” home is one of the landmarks of Concord: the West Street Ward House, voting place for Ward 7 residents. Curiosity, having got the better of me, required a quick stop to see what was going on at the West Street Ward...

More details on two Pleasant Street homes
Last week’s Revelator concerning two properties on Pleasant Street sparked memories and additional background information. One was a home at 278 Pleasant St., soon to become a counseling and medical management center for Riverbend Community Mental Health, and the other a white house that sits on the Dartmouth-Hitchcock clinic property and is excepted to be torn down or sold and moved due to safety issues. The house at 278 Pleasant...

The Recyclinator got mail
Hi Elaine, I read your article, “Where should old batteries go to die?” on Oct. 13 and noticed today that an additional paragraph had been added regarding The Big Green Box. This company does ship all the “rechargeable” batteries it collects to its de-manufacturer Toxco where they are recycled just as promised. However, their “alkaline” batteries are segregated and sent to an outside zinc smelter called Teck Cominco in British...
'I Hate Hamlet' at Concord High School
Concord High School presents “I Hate Hamlet,” by Paul Rudnick. Directed by Renee Macneil, this hilarious play follows television actor Andrew Rally as he tries to take on the role of Hamlet in New York City's Central Park. When Andrew realizes he is actually a horrible actor, he unconsciously summons the ghost of John Barrymore who is doomed (or blessed) to help guide Andrew through the difficulties of the role. See...

My response to the question that the Revelator politely brushed off
In the Oct. 27 issue of the Insider, “Inquisitive” asked why some leaves are falling before they turn color. I do not blame the Revelator for giving that question a polite brush off. (Ed. – Specifically, we said the leaves were mostly dead now so it was old news.) In a recent issue of “Audubon,” when describing why leaves turn color in the fall, Les Line wrote, “It’s a phenomenon that science cannot fully explain.” He further stated,...

Quest for the perfect fall latte
My favorite part of fall is not the vibrant colors of the changing leaves or the crisp feeling in the air when you walk outside. No – it’s all the pumpkin-flavored goodies that pop up everywhere. Pumpkin bread? Yes, please. Pumpkin beer with a cinnamon-rimmed glass? Don’t mind if I do! Before the season ends and all things pumpkins are replaced with all things peppermint or eggnog, I decided to treat my tastebuds and sample a few...
