A fez-tival of trees
The Bektash Shrine Center held its 11th annual Fez-tival of Trees last week. Various artificial Christmas trees were decorated in themes and donated by local businesses and community members for auction. Patrons purchased 25 chances to win for $5 and selected any of the tree drawings to enter, with winners announced Sunday. According to Ron Perry, chairman of the festival, the event featured 95 large and 20 mini trees this year.
Concord feeds the needy with gingerbread houses
Pleasant View Retirement held a Gingerbread Showcase last weekend. The retirement home was transformed into an enchanted gingerbread forest. At the center of it all were gingerbread houses created by the community.

Pork Fest
Grace Episcopal Church threw its second annual Pork Fest Sunday afternoon in Merrill Park. It was a free fun-filled event (especially for pulled pork enthusiasts like the Insider). At the end of the day, about $1,500 was raised for the church's Take-A-Tote ministry, which provides lunches for hungry schoolchildren in the Concord area.
