Four loco – Tue, 18 Nov 2014
With the Sewalls Falls Bridge closing for repairs Dec. 1, we figured it’d be a good time to show you this collage from Instagram user @boudreaujr, depicting what we imagine it looks like if you tumble off the bridge.
Eagle Square Angle Cuts – Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Nearing the end of paving in Eagle Square, bricks are cut making all turns and edges fit perfectly. Photo courtesy of Larry Levinson.
This way to whatever that says – Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Here we have Rachel Geoghegan Umberger with her parents, Emily Geoghegan and Leanne Tigert, on a trip to Castleton Geoghegan to visit the “ancestral sod” in Ireland this summer. We have no idea what that sign says, but we’re just going to assume it’s something like “Please place Insider here.” Or maybe it says, “Watch out for those power lines, that looks like a whopper of a storm about to blow through.” That’s sound advice, we think....

This photo from Instagram user @mcashion also acts as a weather report for the last several weeks: wet, with a high probability of yellow-tinged wet from streetlamps when it gets dark. Don’t snicker, that’s more accurate and descriptive than most weather reports you’ll get. We want to see your Instagram photos, too – just tag us with #concordinsider when you post and we’ll track ‘em down.
Classic Concord photo – Tue, 11 Nov 2014
on’t you just long for the days where firemen wore flame-retardant top hats and pea coats and drove trucks with fancier brassware than most multi million-dollar mansions? So do we, mostly because they never existed – there’s no such thing as a flame retardant pea coat. This picture from reader Earl Burroughs depicts William Green, fire chief for 38 years en route to earning the nickname “grand old man of the department,” and Mayor...

OH MY GOD SOMEONE CALL 911 THAT TREE IS ON FIRE, oh, wait, that’s just some stunning fall foliage captured outside the State House by Instagram user @mr_puppet_edenwald. Perhaps it’s nature’s way of reminding us to turn on the TV so we can catch the final week of scorching political ads roasting every candidate and every decision they’ve ever made. Us? We’re just voting for this photo. Want your Instagram picture to end up in the...

We’re not really sure where Instagram user @phozography found all these clear marbles in different sizes or how he got them to stay on a leaf, but it’s a pretty sweet trick! Maybe if it would ever rain around here he could recreate the shot with actual water. Tag us in your Instagram pics with #concordinsider!
Classic Concord photo – Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Apparently Concord has a long and storied history of having major city buildings with sweet golden domey-type things on top. This is the old Court House and City Hall in 1857, and features both the ubiquitous dome and a rather regal looking facade.
When's cake? – Tue, 21 Oct 2014
The Insider received its first ever wedding invitation when Ashley and Jonas Bendiks got hitched this May, and of course we happily accepted. We then proceeded to hit the open bar pretty hard, use our finger to steal some of the frosting off the cake and nap in the coat closet until morning. So we may not remember it, but this picture proves we were there! And is that our good buddy Luke Bonner, recently wed himself, in the back row?...

This photo from the land of a million pointy green things comes to us from Instagram user @charcole7 and is actually some sort of plant life, we presume. Either way, it’s funky. We want to see your super cool Instagram photos, too – tag us when you post with #concordinsider and we will find them.
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 21 Oct 2014
This is a photo of a postcard of City Hall, sent to us by reader Earl Burroughs. It does beg the question of why anyone would want a postcard of city hall, but perhaps all the wastewater treatment plant postcards were sold out. Either way, it’s super authentic because of the wavy postage stamp still visible in ghost form in the background.

Instagram user @archporn described this photo as a “Romanesque spire with altostratus undulatus clouds.” We prefer the more traditional meteorological phrase “a Romanesque spire with super cute fluffy white clouds that kind of remind us of Col. Sanders’s mustache.” We’ve heard it both ways.

It’s hard to imagine Concord High School without corridors connecting buildings and sprawling square footage and Insider staff members getting routinely lost on the inside, but that was the case when the high school was Parker School, built in the late 1800s (mostly because there were no Insider staff members then.) Best we can tell, you’re looking at the entire Parker “campus” here. Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for sending the...

If you happen to be 12 or 13 feet tall, walking this conservation trail could be a dangerous game. Elbows in! Also, we now dub this Pointy Branch Forest. Thanks to Instagram user @boudreaujr for the shot!
Land of 10,000 lacs – Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Here we see Sally Bird at Mille Lacs Indian Trading Post in Mille Lacs, Minn., where she presumably got a king’s ransom for the “Insider” she has in her hands. That kind of snark is rare in such polished, attractive packages, and surely has supreme bartering value. Be like Sally and send us your travel photos with the “Insider” by emailing them to us at...

This was the first annual parade featuring the same guy 100 times, which sadly was canceled after just one year because the guy was really tired. What this actually is, though, is the Shriners parade on North Main Street in 1926. But where are the awesome tiny little cars??
Spirit doubled in work zones – Tue, 23 Sep 2014
What has three hammers, two drills and only one visible foot? An industrious monopod? Actually, no, it’s these people! This is Linda Bliss, Steve Christensen and Jennifer Stacy, all from Rotary Club of Concord, along with Art Michaud and Pete Crateau from Granite State Glass. The Rotary Club continues to invest time, talent and treasure in Child and Family Services’ transitional living home on Perley Street. Over the years, the Rotary...

This picture of downtown Concord is awesome because of the impossibly painted-on clouds and because Instagram user @ksotr snapped it while making a cross-country journey from Phoenix. Welcome to Concord, @ksotr. Just make sure to wear a helmet if you are going to take photos in the middle of the street.

We think the 1937 Concord High School hockey team would have had better success if it had only made the numbers on the front of the jerseys big enough to read. We applaud the squad on its choice of Wizard of Oz-inspired socks, though. It was a good idea until a house landed on the goalie, anyway. Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for sending us the photo. If you have classic Concord photos we ought to see, just email them to us at...
It's on, Hooksett – Tue, 16 Sep 2014
September is Library Card Sign Up Month, which is much more fun with a little friendly rivarly. That’s why the Concord Public Library is challenging its Hooksett brethren to see who can generate the most sign-ups before the month is out. (Hooksett purges its cards that haven’t been used for three years and Concord doesn’t, so anyone in Concord with a card that hasn’t been used in three years will count as a new sign-up.) The above...

In this week’s episode of Behind the Scenes at the Concord Insider, we show you the place where all letters to the editor wind up. We’re kidding: PLEASE SEND US LETTERS. Actually, we can thank Instagram user @miamarsh73 for this super cool basement shot.
Classic Concord photo – Tue, 16 Sep 2014
Pop quiz, everyone: This is a picture of A) the foyer in Tom Aspell’s City Manager lair; B) The hallowed house of Concord marble busts or C) the main entrance to the New Hampshire Historical Society Building. Trick question: it’s all of the above! Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for the photo.
Don’t forget to change your oil – Tue, 09 Sep 2014
Celeste Oliva, a shop specializing in a huge variety of olive oils and balsamic vinegars at 75 S. Main St., celebrated its grand opening Thursday with the mayor, several customers and Chamber of Commerce representatives. Starr Manus, Tim Sink, Donna Rice, owners Charla and Clark Mayotte, Mayor Jim Bouley, Paul Ebbs and Heather Capraro were on hand to snip the ribbon. Someone suggested framing a piece of the ribbon, but we think we’d...

This ominous sky shot from Carter Hill Orchard seemed like the perfect Instagram photo for our fall guide. Well, short of a photo that said “Insider Fall Guide” in the clouds (lousy uncompromising Mother Nature). Thanks to Instagram user @christine99 for the pic!

We believe The Presidents of the United States of America had it right when they so eloquently said, “millions of peaches, peaches for me; millions of peaches, peaches for free.” Except we’d have to round to the nearest million, and these peaches from the farmers market aren’t free. Otherwise, spot on, though. Thanks to Instagram user @boudreaujr for the pic. Tag us in your Instagram pics with #concordinsider.
In the driver’s seat – Tue, 02 Sep 2014
Winners of the 2014 Funds for Education Golf Tournament presented by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce: Mark Coen, Matt Levins, Jackson Bouley and Jim Bouley. We’ve been told one of them is the mayor of Concord. We’ll let you guess, but we’re going with the one second from the right, because we’re pretty sure we’ve heard the name Mayor Bouley around town a few times. The tournament was held Aug. 6 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course,...

Reader Earl Burroughs sent us this photo from his superb collection depicting the first plane to fly over Concord, which was piloted by Capt. Robert Fogg in the early 1920s. That makes this the first photo of the first flight over Concord, also making this the first Classic Concord photo of the first photo of the first flight over Concord. And the last thing you read before closing the Insider and spending the next half hour regaining...
The color wheel – Tue, 02 Sep 2014
We took some Instagram photos when we visited Kimball-Jenkins for art camp in July, and – spoiler alert – this is one of them. We would have used these pencils to create a magical art project if we were able to a) draw intelligible shapes and b) color within the lines. Unfortunately, all we can really do is c) take pictures of art supplies.
