World Champs – Tue, 03 Feb 2015
Turns out Sophie, Tim’s daughter, was the good luck charm the Patriots needed to win another Super Bowl. While it took her dad over 20 years to see the Pats win, Sophie only had to wait 4 months.
Instagram photo of the Week – Tue, 03 Feb 2015
No matter how snuggled up you were during the big snowstorm last week, it should be clear from this photo you weren’t nearly as warm and snuggly as Instagram user @courtneymurabito. This is her and her feline friend enjoying the first snow day in 75 years at New Hampshire Federal Credit Union, which kept her from having to drive to Concord for work. The comfortable overload in this photo is making us want to take a nap! (or maybe it...

Don’t be distracted by the really tall skinny people casting the shadows in this picture; the real story is the nearly perfect square of light next to the word Bicentennial. Consider the case of how the square got its name officially closed. Thanks to Instagram user @ryanlafemme for snapping the photo.
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Before it was Sanel Auto Parts, this spot was home to the Holt Brothers carriage plant, pictured here in 1898. And will you look at all those brothers? If these guys were alive today they’d almost certainly have their own reality show. Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for the photo.
Smirnoff nice – Tue, 20 Jan 2015
We like to think Yakov Smirnoff would be a fan of the Insider if he were still alive today. Wait, he is alive? Anyway, here we see Tina Fife, Jim Timmins, Maureen Timmins, Terry Banfill, Danny Webster (holding the paper) and Howard Banfill outside the Yakov Smirnoff Theater in Branson, Mo. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to go remove a piece of erroneous information we’ve left on Smirnoff’s Wikipedia page.
Out of their element – Tue, 20 Jan 2015
We tossed this photo on Instagram because we were wondering who let these veggies in to the Granite State Dairy Promotion’s New Hampshire’s Own Macaroni and Cheese bake off Saturday? Although there were some veggie-based offerings, including un-beet-able macaroni and cheese, featuring (shocker coming): beets.

This may look like a digital representation of stuff inside your body from one of those drug commercials with a million deadly side effects, but it’s actually Thistle Blue Dynamite, as shot by our friends at Cole Gardens (@colegardens on Instagram). Tag us with #concordinsider when you post!
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 20 Jan 2015
Fact: The first General Hospital in Concord was at this home located at the corner of South Main and Allison streets a really long time ago. Fact that isn’t true: The first season of the beloved, long-running soap opera “General Hospital” was shot on site. Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for the photo!
Get a taste of local flavor – Tue, 13 Jan 2015
You can shop local and still get your dairy fix, thanks to a couple of dairy farms in Concord, including Bartlett Farm Dairy (and Morrill Farm Dairy, which we’ll introduce you to in a few pages). Bartlett distributes milk, some of which comes in unique flavors, to a bunch of outlets throughout the state, including Constantly Pizza, Osbornes Agway, Quality Cash Market, Granite State Natural Foods, Summer Freeze and two Shaw’s locations...

Concord is either finally being invaded by extraterrestrials with bubble fingers or extraterrestrials covered all of our plants in ice while we slept last weekend. Judge for yourself in this photo from Instagram user @boudreaujr. Tag us when you post on Instagram with #concordinsider and we might use your photo!
A Santorini scene-y – Tue, 06 Jan 2015
Nope, that’s not the Merrimack River Linda Kenison and Brad Mark are posing in front of – it’s a scene from the Greek island of Santorini when the duo visited in October with the “Insider.” Uh oh, it looks like a giant has left his blue beanie cap behind just over Brad’s shoulder. Be a dear and swing it by lost and found before you guys head out, will you? To everyone else – send your travel photos with the “Insider” to...
Instagram photo of the Week – Tue, 06 Jan 2015
We hope Santa isn’t reading this, because this photo, posted by Instagram user @meganabrabec and taken by Instagram user @dtots89, might be enough to make him turn around and come back. As one friend of @meganabrabec noted, it looks like it should be in “Real Simple”! Well, it’s at least in the real “Insider.”
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 06 Jan 2015
Here’s a photo of the 1951 St. John’s High School JV basketball team sent to us by reader Jack Fraser, from an era when haircut persity was apparently not really a thing. Other stuff we dig in this photo: No. 5’s sort of shmedium jersey and the sweet striped shirt No. 8 is rocking under his uniform. The photo may be old, but the means to idenfity everyone were decidedly modern – Fraser, who was the coach of the team, thanked those who...
Instagram photo of the Week – Tue, 30 Dec 2014
This picture of funky tracks comes to us from Instagram user @kristycakes27, who apparently has a really round left foot that is a scientifically puzzling distance from her normal right foot. Really, though, this is a cool picture of the imprints left when @kristycakes27 went for a stroll with her horse. Want to see your Instagram picture in the paper? Of course you do! Just tag us with #concordinsider when you post and we’ll take...

Instagram user @charcole7said he was feeling blue about this poinsettia, so we threw on a lab coat, prescribed him two Insiders and told him to call us in the morning. We might miss the call, though, because we’ll probably still be staring at this mesmerizing photo!
Is that the original? – Tue, 23 Dec 2014
Recreating a painting is not as easy as it looks. Just ask Keith about his attempt to mimic the Green Martini and you’ll see. But despite our constant poking at Keith’s abilities (or lack thereof) seven members of the NHTI library staff decided to do the same. And they even put all seven on display for all library patrons to see. Here you see the handy work of Steve Ambra, but to see the rest you’ll just have to go to the...

Who says you can’t do summer things during New Hampshire winters? Oh, right, it was just everyone. Well, Instagram user @daverson603 isn’t having it. What he is having is a nice day fishing on the Merrimack River, as illustrated (minus the visible fishing) in this photo. Do your thing, @daverson603! We also want you to do your thing, then post it on Instagram, then tag us with #concordinsider. That’s the formula for getting pictures...
Classic Concord photo – Tue, 09 Dec 2014
We wonder if the members of the Concord Fire Department are as good at standing in a perfectly straight line today as they were in 1894, when this photo of the Fireman’s Parade was taken. Yes, those are steam engines in the background, as noted by reader Earl Burroughs, who submitted the photo. And yes, those are super awesome hats the firemen are wearing.
Instagram photo of the week – Tue, 09 Dec 2014
Here’s a recap of the pre-Thanksgiving snow storm in a photo from Instagram user @boudreaujr – some holly berries (not to be confused with the more popular Halle Berrys). We figured we’d use this picture instead of ours, which was just going to be us giving an extended middle finger to the sky.
Times of our lives – Tue, 09 Dec 2014
Karen Collins Riendeau, Sandi Collins Duval, Heather Duval and Kacie Riendeau brought the Insider on a girls weekend to New York City. We’ve always wanted to go on one of those! Here’s everyone in Times Square.
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 16 Dec 2014
This is obviously a scene from another, much more sepia era in Concord history, but there’s some pretty cool stuff here at the corner of Pleasant and Main Street. For instance, note the granite crosswalk on a dirt road, the horse watering trough in the middle of the “intersection,” and the handy downtown casket and coffin store, just in case you happened to need to hit that up after leaving J. S. Green’s boots and shoes place (though...

Apparently you aren’t the only one ordering shots of Fireball. Looks like Mother Nature ordered one up for this sunset at Oak Hill, as shot by Instagram user @advntrgirl11. We’d love to see your Instagram photos, too – just tag us when you post with #concordinsider.
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 02 Dec 2014
That building behind some Bob Ross-worthy happy little trees (and some other less identifiable shmutz) is First Baptist Church on North State Street, which is now Center Point Church. Thanks to Reader Earl Burroughs for the photo. EDITOR’S NOTE: We goofed in last week’s classic Concord photo, referring to the building as a women’s prison, when it was, in fact, a women’s hospital. Those aren’t the same things at all! Our...

The sun – and Lily – are looking over Concord during this Saturday morning walk with Instagram user @girldogbike. Well, Lily was on a Saturday morning walk, the sun was just waking up after a long night at the bars. We want to see your Instagram photos, too – just tag us with #concordinsider when you post!
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 25 Nov 2014
Remember back in the day when everything in the world just looked like a house? Yeah, this photo from reader Earl Burroughs is from those days. This is the women’s hospital on South Street, opposite Perley Street, but you wouldn’t know it from the general housyness of it all.
Coach 'em up – Tue, 18 Nov 2014
Talk about being prepared – Roman Tarnawsky (he’s the photographer) and Linda Rost encountered a pair of Concord Coaches during a recent trip to Sacramento, including this one in a Wells Fargo Bank building. And they just happened to have the ‘Insider’ with them for the Concord daily double! More proof you should always have at least one copy of the ‘Insider’ on your person at all times.
Slow day at the office – Tue, 18 Nov 2014
We know it’s only a couple weeks in to November, but we figured by this time at least something would be worthy of a spot on the Monitor’s Photos of the Month cubicle pider, but apparently that’s not the case. The cute letter from a young Bow reader telling Monitor columnist Ray Duckler to, in not so many words, ditch his beard and change his picture is the only thing that keeps the pider from feeling lonely when all the lights go out...
Instagram photo of the Week – Tue, 18 Nov 2014
Well, it’s a real thing now, readers – Main Street Construction. This photo from Instagram user @iangoesoutside includes elements we didn’t see in the millions of proposals that went through the city planners, like the artisinal crane arc installed over the State House and the stepladder leading straight to the dome. By the way, we want to see your Instagram photos, too – just tag us with #concordinsider.
Classic Concord Photo – Tue, 18 Nov 2014
In this photo from reader Earl Burroughs, we see the Concord police marching down Main Street during a parade circa that time there was a piano store downtown. It was a parade that would live on in infamy for its role in contributing to the rest of the nation’s great bunting shortage of the early 1900s.
