Did someone say mac and cheese bake off?
The fine people at Granite State Dairy Promotion did, and it’s happening this weekend. We stopped by to find out what kind of other awesome stuff they have cooking over there.
ConcordGallery-CI-010615
Before officially kicking off Concord’s 250th year, a New Year’s Eve pop up history gallery was like a walk down memory lane with some of the city’s old stuff on display at the Grappone Center. Unfortunately it was just a one-day thing, but luckily we went and took pictures. You’re welcome.
TimTree-CI-123014
Tim has never met a craft he didn’t want to make, so when the Concord Library wanted him to create a Christmas trees out of old books it wasn’t a hard sell.
Furniture-CI-123014
The New Hampshire Furniture Masters gallery is currently home to the third exhibition in its ‘Schools of Thought’ series: North Bennet Street School. The exhibit is “an examination of works by makers from this esteemed Boston program” and will be on display through March 10.
We checked out the happenings at the holiday food basket project
The Capital Region Food Program kicked off its holiday food basket project last week.
This is what NHTI’s visual arts students have been up to
It’s not everyday that we get to be part of a celebration, which is why we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see what the students in NHTI’s visual arts program had decided to display for their capstone exhibits. And what we found hanging on the walls of the school library was a wide range of stuff from three NHTI artists. Bonnie Farren used ceramics to express her artistic side. Jessica Roberts is a photographer and shared her...
KJStudentArt-CI-121614
For the last 15 years, every December, the fine people at Kimball-Jenkins put together an exhibit that showcases the fine work of their students for all to see. So consider this your official invitation to the annual Kimby Jenks Student Art Exhibit, which will be on display through Jan. 2 in the Carolyn Jenkins gallery.
See Melissa Miller’s view of the world, through her paint brush
Melissa Anne Miller is pretty famous around these parts for her art. And now, marking a 20-year collaboration, Miller’s stuff is once again hanging on the walls of McGowan Fine Art. The show will run till Dec. 19, but before it ends, Miller will be hosting a studio tour at 45 S. Main St. in the loft at Orr & Reno, on Wednesday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
We've got just the thing to make your door pop this holiday season
And it happens to rhyme with smeath!
Head to Cobblestone to gobble up the best Christmas baubles this year
If you haven’t been to Cobblestone Design Company recently, you sure are missing out on one serious winter wonderland. Beginning in October, the store on Fort Eddy Road is transformed into all things Christmas. We’re talking snowmen (fake of course), trees (also fake) and wreaths (some of which are actually real). So if you’re in need of some new Christmassy stuff, Cobblestone will probably have something to fill your holiday...
Celebrate some local artists by checking out this Mill Brook show
To end yet another year, Mill Brook Gallery is paying homage to the capital region’s thriving arts scene with an exhibit featuring nine local artists who dabble in mediums from acrylic to oils, and bronze to photography. And as an early Christmas present to yourself, you should go check it out before Dec. 24, the last day of the show.
Feztival-CI-120214
The 14th annual Fez-tival of Trees once again brought out the best and brightest fake Christmas tree designers known to man – or at least from the capital region. While there were many great ones to choose from, we can only print so many so feast you eyes on this outstanding collection.
CraftsmenCollection-CI-112514
The art work you see here represents a piece of history when it comes to the League of N.H. Craftsmen, so put on your walking shoes cause we’re taking a trip down memory lane.
BobDorr-CI-112514
Bob Dorr is quite the embroiderer and he's also a member of the League of N.H. Craftsmen.
We give you the most obscure movies ever
We love spending our days off (and down time in the office)catching up on movies we’ve never seen before. And after a trip to NHTI recently, we better fire up the popcorn maker, because we have a lot of new material for the old DVD player. That is if any of it actually comes in DVD form. It’s probably more likely to be found on Betamax. The collection of old movie posters on the walls of the library is courtesy of Red River’s Barry...
This N.H. Institute of Art exhibit has taken over the Kimby-Jenks
Typically, one gallery is enough for exhibits at the Kimby-Jenks. But this isn’t your average show. That’s why the New Hampshire Institute of Art Alumni work has taken over both the Jill C. Wilson and the Carolyn Jenkins galleries. The exhibit runs through the end of November, but you might want to go soon because there’s a lot to look at.
More like the Concord InCider, amirite!!??
We checked in with a couple of local experts to get the lowdown on different ways to make sweet, sweet, cider
TheDivide-CI-110414

CraftsmenGifts-CI-110414
The League of N.H. Craftsmen’s exhibit, “Gifts From Our Hands: What We Do Best,” is on display between now and Dec. 19. So you should probably go check it out.
‘Back roads and By Ways’ will lead you to this McGowan exhibit
McGowan Fine Art is currently home to Susan Abbott’s “Back Roads and By Ways: New Landscapes.” The exhibit runs through Nov. 14 and shows Abbott’s attraction to small towns, dirt roads, village greens, barn yards and back fields. Both mood and meaning in Abbott’s oil work – images of old houses, old farms, old towns and old trucks – have to do with age and time. And if you like what you see here, there’s plenty more on...
Quench your thirst with this Christine Destrempes exhibit
In “Transparency & Substance,” the current exhibit at St. Paul’s Hargate Gallery, Christine Destrempes explores the personality of water. Destrempes is “drawn to water’s reflective stillness as well as its capacity for transformation, seamless adaptability and proclivity to follow the path of least resistance.” The exhibit is on display through Nov. 1 and you can even meet Destrempes during family weekend at St. Paul’s, Friday,...
TasteofConcord-CI-101414
The ninth annual Taste of Concord was held last week and you might be able to guess it was filled with delicious food from all your favorite joints around town.
NHTIArt-CI-101414
The NHTI library is home to some fun stuff this month – and we’re not talking about the book collection. There’s painted pottery by Amanda Tempesta, Sandra White’s quilling (which is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs) and Fred Harrington Reverse Polish Notation HP Calculators.
Kimball-Jenkins brings in small art for a rather large exhibit
Kimball-Jenkins is well known for bringing some pretty unique shows to its galleries. And this month is no different as members of the North Country Studio took over the Carolyn Jenkins Gallery. But with well over 50 pieces on display, it might not take up as much wall space as you might expect. You see, each piece in the exhibit is only 6 by 6, and we’re talking in inches here people. And you might be surprised to see exactly what...
Everything you need to find the perfect pumpkin
There are plenty of pumpkins, big and small, grown right here in Concord. But choosing the right one can be a difficult task. Have no fear. That’s why the Insider’s here! Tim stopped by a couple of local farms to get the skinny, and he also got some great pumpkin shots.
DancingLeaves-CI-093014
There’s a fall celebration going on right now and no, it’s not in your backyard as the trees begin to shed their summer coat in anticipation of winter. Not sure if that’s actually why the leaves fall each autumn, but we’ll try to find out and report back. Rather the celebration we’re talking about is the Dancing Leaves exhibit at Mill Brook Gallery, on display through Oct. 12, where each piece of fine art is dedicated to those...
AVCConcord-CI-093014
AVC Emergency & Referral Veterinary Center opened its Concord location in June.
Making the most out of what the Granite State has to offer
In New Hampshire, we sure do appreciate our granite. We are the Granite State after all. And from what we can tell, Gary Haven Smith must feel the same, especially since he uses our state’s nicknamesake to create some impressive works of art – and ones that happen to weigh quite a bit. They are made out of granite (and other materials) after all. Smith’s sculptures and paintings are currently on display at McGowan Fine Art through...
Looking at the Granite State from really old (and newer) lenses
A photograph exhibit, entitled “New Hampshire Then & Now,” is currently on display at the N.H. Historical Society’s Park Street location. Using old prints by a variety of photographers and more recent snapshots by Peter Randall, the collection shows just how much the Granite State has changed over the years.
