Go Try It: Get the full gaming experience at Wal-Mart

If you’ve ever set out looking for some hard-core gaming in Concord, chances are you’ve likely had some trouble. For all of the great things Concord has, the city is decidedly light on arcades. There is, however, a pretty legit gaming center inside Wal-Mart. It’s right near the front of the store, next to the self-checkout area, and there are several classic arcade-style games inside. Check out this new barber shop in Concord

Every guy has to get his hair cut sooner or later. It’s just one of those things in life that most of us would rather leave to the pros. That’s why it’s never a bad idea to open a new barber shop, and that’s exactly what Dylan Ames and...

But like most destinations, Concord isn’t perfect and there’s definitely some things that would make it an even greater hot spot for people to come to. It’s nothing...

We never knew you could be addicted to art

In the past few months, artists have brought in a lot of fresh work that hadn’t found a spot in previous shows at McGowan Fine Art. So the staff had an idea to put it all together in one varying exhibit entitled, “Hello, My Name Is . . . Addicted to Art.” It features the art that got the staff excited, while providing an opportunity to tell the audience why the art deserves a second look. The McGowan staff, select collectors and...

What’s in a name?

When we are born, we’re given a name that is used for the important stuff. It goes on your social security card, your license and really any document that you intend to be official. As we get older, some of us are gifted with a nickname that can even take precedence over our given name. Sometimes people only know you by your nickname. And if you happen to be involved with roller derby, you have a name that should – and likely does –...

Food Snob: Reuben and hand-cut fries from Zac’s Snax

We’re pretty big on portable food vendors around here. Whether it’s parking lot trailers, pickup truck hot dog stands or generic roach coaches, if it sells food, we’re down. A few weeks ago we did a hot dog stand feature that gave a little shout-out to Zac’s Snax. We would have done a full piece on Zac’s, but it hadn’t yet opened when we did that story. But it’s open now, and you better believe we went by to give it a try. We stopped...

This is a busy time of year for meat sellers

Just like our forefathers said, you can’t have the Fourth of July without meat. It’s practically in the Constitution. One of the main features of the holiday – and the summer in general – is throwing some nice meat on the grill and hanging out in the yard all day and night. Since Concord is home to a couple of places that deal a lot with meat – Quality Cash Market and Concord Beef and Seafood – we checked them out to see what each had...
