A look at what’s to come in Concord in 2017
Now that it’s officially January, we can start to really focus on what the year ahead has in store for us. Sure, 2016 was a real doozy of a year, but 2017 looks like it’s going to be as jam-packed as any we’ve seen around here. From a plethora of annual shindigs that seem to get bigger and better every year to new construction projects and city re-engineering, it looks like we’ll (thankfully) have plenty to write about for the next 12...
What will Concord look like in 50 years?
If you can remember all the way back to 2015, Concord celebrated a pretty important milestone. That’s right, our charming little city turned 250 years old.It was a year-long trip down memory lane complete with celebrations, a time capsule opening and burial, and just an overall look at how far Concord had come since being established in 1865.But now that the city is 251 years old, has a brand new downtown and is just a thriving spot...
Go Try It: When life gives you snow, make a snowman
Just when it seemed like every last snowflake was about to melt away – boom, another storm comes and wipes those thoughts away. Such is the life of a New Englander, I guess. But rather than sit around whining and complaining about having to shovel, scrape and salt, you should use this opportunity to have some fun. After all, how many types of precipitation can you actually play with? You may have seen a feature in last week’s Monitor...

Want to get rid of your tree? Put it out at the curb
Now that Christmas is over, you’re probably looking for the fastest and easiest way to get that tree out of your house – that is if you haven’t tossed it in the backyard already. What once was a vibrant sign of the holiday season has turned into something that you’d likely chop down if it was in your yard. Not to mention, when those things dry out, it’s quite the fire hazard. But don’t fret, dear citizens of Concord, help is on the...

We say goodbye to graphic designer Charlotte
It was a sad week at the Insider/Monitor offices last week as we prepared to say farewell to good friend and longtime graphic designer Charlotte Thibault, who retired Friday. Charlotte has been a driving force in the newsroom and elsewhere ever since she started the day after Thanksgiving 33 years ago. She’s made graphs, charts, infographics, Insider covers, magazines, inserts, special sections, advertisements and everything in...

Believe it or not, we just officially crossed into winter last Wednesday, even though it’s felt like it for weeks. With winter weather comes winter brews, and we were searching for one that’s kind of off the beaten path. Therefore, we went to Area 23 (254 N. State St.), which is always changing up its taps of craft libations.Catching my eye immediately was the Leinenkugel Cranberry Ginger Shandy. You can still tell Santa what you want
There are only a few days remaining until Christmas, and the panic is probably setting in – you (or your child) still haven’t sat on Santa’s lap and told him what you want. That’s okay, though, because the Jolly One seemingly has plenty of time to spare, despite his deadline fast approaching. If you’ve missed him at places like the Feztival of Trees and the city tree lighting, there’s still one option that’s as reliable as any: the...

We only got one adult letter to Santa Claus
A few weeks ago, we put the call out for letters to Santa. But instead of enlisting the likes of little Billy and Suzie, we were looking for all the adults out there to write their own wish lists for jolly ol’ St. Nick. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite get the response we were looking for as we got a grand total of one. We were even hoping for a few that we couldn’t print, but nope just the one. That’s alright though, because of a nice...
