On Display: Kimball Jenkins has a cool new bike exhibit
With the Big Bicycle Project set to debut all around Concord on May 6, Kimball Jenkins Estate is hosting an exhibit which – as you can see – is all about bikes. The exhibit, which will be on display through April, features antique bikes dating as far back as the 1880s, along with a variety of bicycle advertisements and pictures that all have to do with bikes. So to get yourself ready for the influx of bicycle art, it might be a good...

This Week in Concord History
April 11, 1793: A tragedy called The Revenge plays at the Town House, on the current site of the Merrimack County Courthouse. It is the first play to be staged in Concord. The city’s Mirrour called it “a virtuous, sentimental and rational amusement to the respectable inhabitants of the town.” April 11, 1984: Fire ravages the 125-year-old St. Paul’s church in Concord, leaving only the walls, bell tower and half the roof intact....
We sent our intern on a Concord adventure
I have had four adventurous years since leaving the Concord area to attend school in upstate New York. But now that I’m back in New Hampshire interning for the Insider (and Monitor), I set out to rediscover the area where I grew up. So, armed with a camera and list of Concord hot-spots, I met up with my friend and fledgling photographer Tim Berube to see what Concord has to offer. A lot can change in four years. Our day of adventure...

You’ve got two chances to see St. Paul’s ballet
Insider staff When it comes to dancing in front of others, we like to refrain as much as possible. If you’ve seen us bust a move, then you know exactly what we’re talking about. But the exact opposite can be said for the 14 dancers that make up the St. Paul’s School Ballet Company. The whole point of the ballet company is to perform in front of others and you can see it on display this weekend. That’s when they’ll put on their spring...
A new space for the arts
Insider staffWhen we first heard about Hatbox Theatre, the idea of a performance space in a former mall store intrigued us.And when we learned how quickly things were going to take shape to be ready for opening night, which was slated for April Fools Day, we needed to know more. But instead of just describing what Hatbox Theatre was going to be, we wanted the full experience. And what better way than to take in opening night. When we...
WinantMemorial-CI-082515
On Aug. 14, people who looked pretty important gathered in front of the N.H. State Library for the unveiling of a sign at the site of the future John Gilbert Winant Memorial, Winant was a decorated pilot during WWI, elected to the N.H. House and Senate, and served three terms as governor. He was the first head of the Social Security Administration – which is why New Hampshire-issued Social Security numbers begin with 000, 001 and 002...
SixtiesInvasion-CI-081815
Eagle Square took a trip back in time with the ultimate throwback Thursday last week to see a performance by Sixties Invasion, a show band that performs a wide variety of music from the 1960s. With sing-alongs and a “guest appearance” from the one and only Roy Orbison, the crowd returned to 2015 having seen an impressive tribute. Band members include lead singer Dave Dunham, lead guitarist Bob Clearly, bass player Jack Little and...

The St. Paul’s students who biked across the country to raise money for Ride 2 Recovery clearly didn’t enjoy themselves at all (**sarcasm**). Thankfully they blogged about the whole trip. Here are some photo highlights.
IronChef-CI-042115
A top chef competition in which every dish had to be prepared with chocolate? Um, yup, that’s the greatest thing ever. Concord’s first Iron Chef Competition, sponsored by GoodLife Programs & Activities, was held April 1.
Quilts-CI-040715
Since this is the quilting issue and we spent most of last week talking to people about quilts, it was only right that we devote some space to some of the best ones we saw during our travels. Plus we’re big fans of things that keep us warm and wanted to share it with all of you. And trust us, this is only a fraction of what we saw. We could probably fill every page with pictures of quilts and still not get them all in.

Cannon-CI-033115
Turns out about three months is long enough for a gingerbread house to sit in a place of business, so we asked for suggestions on how to destroy Tim’s creation. The winner? A tiny cannon! And boy did the cannon do its job. We found pieces of gingerbread shrapnel a good 50 feet from the blast site. Wish you could have seen it happen? You can – we took video, and posted it to our Facebook page. Go check it out!

Burgerfest-CI-062414
The Barley House hosts Burgerfest for eight days every year to help raise money for Fred’s Fund and the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, but the Food Snob likes to think the good folks there host it as a way to get him through the door eight days in a row. Mission accomplished!
It’s a tough Snob, but somebody had to do it
Who better to preview the top chef competition at the YMCA Spring Social than our resident food critic?
