Bring on the snow!
Concord General Services road crews spent last week preparing for snow. Thorough maintenance checks were performed on trucks and equipment vehicles. Crews replaced any parts necessary, such as cutting edges on plows, and calibrated the sand/salt spreaders on trucks to ensure accurate road application, conserve sand/salt use, and reduce material expenses. Training sessions were also held to educate and refresh staff on winter operations and safety.
Crews work as quickly and efficiently as possible to plow the 220 center line miles (440 lane miles) of streets and 90 miles of sidewalks throughout the city on a priority level basis. We thank the community for their patience as crews make their way through the city.

Winter parking bans require all vehicles to be removed from indicated streets between midnight and 7 a.m. for snow removal operations. Free parking is available in the City garages on weekends, observed holidays, and Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. for permit/lease spaces (marked with signage) and until 9 a.m. for metered spaces. Penacook residents may park at the Canal Street Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of Village Street and Canal Street near Chief’s Restaurant. Although this lot is posted for no overnight parking, the City’s Parking Division will suspend this regulation during city-wide winter parking bans to accommodate Penacook residents.
Plows require a lot of space on the road, which can make plowing difficult if cars are parked on the street, especially on narrow streets. Cars parked in tight areas or on narrow streets can block plows from fitting through the street. Please park off-street when it snows, even when a parking ban is not issued, to allow crews to plow more efficiently and restore safe road conditions.

Holiday reminders
All City of Concord offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Trash collection will not be delayed and will follow its regular schedule since the holiday occurs on the weekend. The Concord Transfer Station will be closing at noon on Saturday, Dec. 24, and will be closed through 8 a.m. on Monday. Happy holidays!
Everett Arena
Ice Season Continues at the Everett Arena
Come ice skate at the Douglas N. Everett Arena! Skating hours are Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $6 and free for ages 3 and under. Skate rentals are available for $6 at the arena’s pro shop. Ice skating continues through March 16.
Adult stick practice is offered for ages 14 and up on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. through March 15. Admission is $10 and free for goalies. Helmet and gloves are required, and full equipment is recommended.
The arena will be closed on Dec. 25 but will be open on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Hope to see you on the ice! Find more information at concordnh.gov/skating.
Parks and Rec adult classes
The Parks and Recreation Department’s Winter Adult Class Brochure with more than 30 different adult classes is online and registration is underway. Many types of classes are offered including numerous yoga, Zumba and Tai Chi Classes to Joyful Singing and even a gardening workshop. Pre-registration is required for all programs (except our adult “drop in” sports). Please check with your health insurance company as many policies cover the cost of these programs.
Ugly pickles
The Ugly Sweater Pickleball tournament is Friday, Dec. 23, at the City Wide Community Center. Players age 55 and over will play from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, and players between ages 18 and over play from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $30 per team for Concord residents and 50 per team for non-residents.
