Bow High School students freshly returned from spring vacation will head off to Italy this weekend, at least in their imaginations.
Students will present Romeo and Juliet on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Choral and Theatre Director Sarah Evans said the play was chosen because of the depth of the characters and that students are already familiar with this William Shakespeare play, having studied it freshman year.
“The characters are so rich,” Evans said. “The characters are so active and so passionate.”
Seniors Zach Mullen and Libby Parker will perform in the title roles.
The teens fall in love at first sight, but are faced with roadblocks to their romance.
Swordfights, secret rendez-vous, deception and family (dis)loyalty are just a few of the reasons Shakespeare’s play lives on.
The play will be the traditional language but the setting will be more contemporary with modern costumes.
“For anyone not super in love with Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet is great beginner Shakespeare since the story is so familiar,” Evans said.
Students auditioned for parts in February and began rehearsals in March, so they’ve had a fast-paced schedule of intense rehearsals, Evans said.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
