Newly bereaved discussion group
Concord Regional VNA is offering a Newly Bereaved Discussion Group on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St. Groups are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the same time.

Maple syrup seminar at NHTI
On Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m., NHTI will present the next event in its Wings of Knowledge lecture series for the 2018-19 academic year. Noted Forest Society naturalist Dave Anderson will present “Sweet Ramblings About All Things Maple Syrup – Myth, Magic, and Realities.”
In a time of changing climate, what does the future hold for forests, maple sugaring and New Hampshire traditions?
All events are free and open to the public, and take place in the Library Living Room unless otherwise noted. The series supports and expands upon NHTI’s wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college’s expanding community college mission. Jim Webber at Bach’s Lunch
On Thursday at 12:10 p.m., award-winning theater director Jim Webber returns to the Concord Community Music School stage with his Bach’s Lunch Lecture, “One Song, Many Voices: Interpreting the Great American Songbook.” Standing out from the crowd has always been about confidence, taste and originality. The great voices of the American Songbook era knew this, even as they created vocal stylings that encapsulated public tastes of their own times. Speaker Jim Webber puts the spotlight on how famous singers put their own individual vocal stamp on the same classic tunes over and over again – with surprising and often memorable results. Discover what makes the “covers” of yesterday stay so fresh in our minds through the years.

Child, adolescent grief support
H20 helping heal with others, a bereavement program for children (ages 6-18) and their families, meets Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Concord, 55 Bradley St. H20 is held on the second Saturday of each month at the same time.
H20 provides bereaved children and their families with coping skills and peer support, enabling them to experience and process their grief freely. Lunch is provided after each session. Accompanying adults may be asked to stay on site and are invited to participate in a concurrent, supportive program.

Comedy club to open at Tandy’s
Laughta In New Hampsha, a division of NoDo Productions, is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new Comedy Club on Valentine’s Day at Tandy’s Pub, 1 Eagle Square, in downtown Concord. But this new club, which will run on the second Thursday of each month beginning on Valentine’s Day, promises to bring a bit of a “twist” to what audiences might expect to find at a traditional comedy club venue.
“Think variety show,” says Doris Ballard, co-producer of entertainment at the club and opening night host. “In addition to featuring a talented lineup of stand-up comic performers and headliners to Tandy’s Pub in Concord, we’ll be presenting a mix of performances by area musicians and vocalists, with a different theme and surprises every night.”
The Valentine’s night grand opening will feature the stand-up comedy of headliner Bob Sheehy, who has opened for Meatloaf at Caroline’s Comedy in New York City, Bob Marley at Foxwoods, and Kevin Meaney at Lowell Auditorium. Local popular comics who will also be performing stand-up are David Afflick, Norm Ballard, Karen Desmarais, Rick Gauthier and Allen-Michael-Harber.
And bringing some Valentine romance to the night is talented guest vocalist Seraphim Afflick (D’Andrea). Seraphim, who was awarded NHTA Best Musical Theater actress of 2017, is also an award-winning tribute artist as the timeless beauty Marilyn Monroe.
Doors of the Comedy Club open at 7:30 p.m. with show times from 8 to 9:30. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Eventbrite NoDoProductions, or at the door the night of the performance starting at 6 p.m.
