The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Concord Young Professionals Network introduces you to our “Young Professional of the Month,” Julianne Rosset. Each month the CYPN Steering Committee recommends a young professional in the community it thinks readers would enjoy getting to know better.
How old are you? 30.
Where do you live? Concord.
Where do you currently work? I work for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as a fish and wildlife biologist. Primarily, my job is to minimize the impacts hydropower dams have on migratory fish, federally protected species, and other riverine fish and wildlife resources.
What’s your favorite part of your work day? Tough question. I love that day in and day out I’m helping to protect our natural world. Sometimes my work day can be pretty unique and special – like last week, when I traveled to the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge and went boating on Lake Umbagog in the snow to better understand the potential impacts a nearby dam might have on refuge land and lake habitat.
Where did you go to school? I attended the University of West Florida, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, and the University of Massachusetts, where I earned my master’s degree in environmental conservation.
What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy climbing, hiking, paddling, exploring New Hampshire. I’m currently working on my 4,000-footers (halfway there!) and the 52 with a view list!
Favorite places to be? On the water, in the woods.
Last book you read?Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. I’m only reading female authors this year after having realized I was lacking a female presence in my book collection. It’s helped me to discover amazing new authors.
How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefited your business or you personally? I found out about Concord Young Professionals Network on social media; I had just moved to the area and wanted to network and meet new people. For me, CYPN brings a sense of community to Concord – something the city benefits greatly from and could use more of! CYPN has also opened up some volunteer opportunities for me, like The Friendly Kitchen.
What organizations are you involved with? American Fisheries Society.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? Hermanos! Great food, even better margaritas, and an amazing wait staff. Revival is a close second.
What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? Gibson’s Bookstore. I love grabbing a coffee at True Brew Café and perusing the shelves and stacks of books.
What is one of your life goals? To laugh often and much.
What has been your favorite CYPN event so far? CYPN does a great job of getting me to places I’ve been meaning to go since moving to the area. My favorite event so far was at the Concord Public Library. I got to explore the library, drink great beer from Concord Craft Brewing Co. and meet wonderful people.
If you could visit any country, where would you go? If you asked me this a few months ago, I would have said Italy, but I went in September! Next on my list – Wales.
Where is the best place you’ve visited? Really hard to say, but Bermuda has a special place in my heart.
Who would you really like to meet? Singer-songwriter John McCauley! Squeee.
