Capital Area Memory Cafe
The Capital Area Memory Café for memory-impaired individuals and their family members will meet Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Granite Ledges of Concord, 151 Langley Parkway. The Memory Café is held on the third Wednesday of each month at the same time. This month is our “Café Chat.”
Enjoy an opportunity to socialize and build relationships with others who have memory impairment. Family members can speak with healthcare professionals and learn more about resources while their loved ones are engaged in meaningful and supervised activity in a relaxed home-like environment.
The Capital Area Memory Café is a collaboration of Concord Hospital, Concord Regional VNA, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Concord and Granite Ledges of Concord. Underwriting is generously provided by Merrimack County Savings Bank.

Jazz Sanctuary at First Church
A prescription for “lasting happiness in a changing world” is what the conversation between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in The Book of Joy purports to offer. Jazz Sanctuary – First Church/Third Sunday will build this Sunday’s jazz worship experience at 1 p.m. at First Congregation Church (177 N. Main St.) around this book and the road map for life’s spiritual journey that it provides. Vocalist and Pastor Emilia Halstead returns with her joy-filled voice after a time away and will be joined by the WildVine Jazz Sanctuary House Band of BJ Steinberg (guitar), Jock Irvine (bass), Ed Raczka (drums) and Tim Wildman (keyboard and trumpet). A half-hour jazz set will be followed at 1:30 by the jazz worship experience. There is no admission charge, and wherever you might be on your spiritual journey, you are welcome to find joy in gathering with the Jazz Sanctuary community for this music and conversation.

Music school wants new voices
Do you love to sing? Add your voice to one of Concord Community Music School’s choruses, now welcoming new members for the fall semester. Open Sing for Songweavers and Canterbury Singers will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 5:30 and 7 p.m., respectively. Children in grade levels K-8 are invited to the Purple Finches Open Sing on Monday, Sept. 17. Fledglings (K-2) meet at 4:10 p.m.; Fliers (3-5) meet at 5 p.m.; Finches (6-8) meet at 6 p.m.

New home for contra dance
After 23 years at the now-closed East Concord Community Center, the monthly Concord contra dance has moved to a new home. Dances will continue to run on the third Saturday of the month (except July and August), 8 to 11 p.m., now at NV Dance Productions, 134 Hall St., Unit 2. As always, dances are walked through before the music starts and beginners, singles and families are welcome. This is a smoke- and alcohol-free activity. The Sept. 15 dance features caller Byron Ricker with music from Jeff Kaufman, Alex Cumming, Rick Kaufman, and Stephen Thomforde playing fiddle, mandolin, piano, pipes and possibly other instruments. The Concord contra dance series is starting its 31st year. Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for ages 15-25, free for anyone under 15. For more info, go to concordnhcontra.wordpress.com.

‘I’m 65’ financial seminar, talk
Are you 65 or older, or do you have an older adult in your family? Is it difficult to talk about finances and wills? Are you stressed by increasing caregiving responsibilities? Come to Concord Hospital’s Center for Health Promotion, 49 S. Main St., Suite 201, on Thursday with your questions and get answers from a panel of professionals. The session will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It’s free but registration is required. The panel will include Nancy Wilson, MSN; Simon Keeling, CFP; Tina Annis, lawyer; Jeffrey Zellers, lawyer; and Lee Ayers Lafave, Lake Sunapee Home Care and Hospice.
