Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
Gail Honeymoon
2017, 327 pages
Fiction
After just a few paragraphs into Gail Honeymoon’s superbly written novel, it becomes quite clear that Eleanor Oliphant is … not completely fine. An emotionally, mentally and physically abusive upbringing, the experience of a horrifically tragic incident at the age of 10, and a young adult life spent in the foster care system has lead Eleanor to lead a very independent, very regimented and very lonely life. Until, one day, when she finds her soulmate who she is absolutely sure will change everything and carry her into her new life … if only she can find a way for him to realize her existence.
Just as Eleanor is plotting this new life, she meets Raymond, a new co-worker who against all odds (and Eleanor’s general distaste of his smoking habit, writing skills and general being) becomes her friend and truly does change her life – by saving it. Without knowing it, Ms. Eleanor Oliphant is incredibly hilarious and so very endearing. Her deadpan wit and personality can only be truly known and loved if read. Please, please read or listen to this book.
