Kick off Making Strides on May 24
A free evening of inspiration, fabulous fare, libations and music is scheduled to kick off the Making Strides of Concord 2018 season!
Happy hours for Hope will be May 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Phenix Hall, 38 N. Main St. (above The Works Café).
Come be inspired, informed and motivated to be part of the powerful force that is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Concord.
Business sponsors, team leaders, volunteers and anyone interested in the American Cancer Society’s No. 1 per capita Making Strides event in the United States are welcome.
And leave your checkbook at home – this is not a fundraiser.

Auditions for RB Productions show
RB Production is hosting auditions for this summer’s mainstage production of Mary Poppins at Beaver Meadow School on May 22 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Performances will be Aug. 3-4 at the Capitol Center for the Arts. Rehearsals will take place during the months of July, evenings and weekends.
Please prepare 32 bars of a song that matches the style of the musical and best showcases your vocal abilities and personality. Please provide the casting directors a resume and headshot.
All roles are available including both principle and ensemble adult roles (including Mary Poppins, Bert, Mr. and Mrs. Banks and more) for ages 18 and older; young adult and teen ensemble roles for ages 13 to 17; and children roles available: Jane (ages 9-12) and Michael (ages 8-10) plus various roles for the childrens ensemble (ages 6-12)
After auditions, a callback list will be released via email for those invited to return on May 24.
Those called back will be asked to sing from the score and learn a short dance combination with our choreographer.
RB Productions has also reviewed the enrollment for its two “teenage” shows – Singing in the Rain and Once upon a Mattress – and found the majority of registrations are under 15 years old .Registration is now open to include 10 year olds and up. Both shows are looking for boys to fill lead roles.

Jazz Sanctuary this Sunday afternoon
“The Birthday of Spiritual Community Through the Jazz of Spirit” will be the theme of this Sunday’s Jazz Sanctuary – First Church/ Third Sunday at 1 p.m. at Concord’s First Congregational Church (177 N. Main St. – corner of North Main and Washington streets).
The Prodigals, an eight-piece jazz worship ensemble, will be featured with swinging jazz arrangements of sacred and secular pieces by the group’s leader and trumpeter, Bob “Dr. Cool” Maccini. The Christian celebration of Pentecost will be the jumping off point for conversation led by Tim Wildman about spiritual community and how it forms and is sustained by spirit.
The jazz set begins at 1 p.m. with the jazz worship experience at 1:30. Admission is free and “wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!”

Yard sale to benefit Pat and the Hats
“The Hats” as in Pat and The Hats will hold an album fund yard sale at the Smokestack Center, 254 N. State St. on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pasta supper at Bow Mills Saturday
The Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., Bow, is hosting a pasta supper on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Proceeds from the pasta supper will go toward the Bow Mills Campership Fund.

Caregiver program begins June 19
Concord Regional VNA is offering “Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” a six-week program that empowers family caregivers of older adults to take better care of themselves. The program is on Tuesdays beginning June 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at GoodLife Programs & Activities, 254 N. State St.
Learn tools to help reduce stress, improve caregiving confidence, establish balance in your life, communicate your needs, make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources.
