The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Concord Young Professionals Network (CYPN) introduces you to our “Young Professional of the Month,” Inês Cabral. Each month the CYPN Steering Committee recommends a young professional in the community it thinks Concord Insider readers would enjoy getting to know better.

How old are you? 24

Where do you live? Concord.

Where do you currently work? I am an intern at Louis Karno & Company Communications.

Where did you go to school? I completed my bachelor’s degree in communications at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and my master’s in International Studies at Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, both in Lisbon, Portugal.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to travel, ride my motorcycle, be with friends, read books and have a good coffee under the sunlight.

Favorite places to be? On a train heading somewhere.

Last book you’ve read? One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Márquez. I am now finishing my first audiobook, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins and Chomsky’s Who Rules the World? that I got from the library on my first visit.

How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefitted your business or you personally? I learned about CYPN through Angie Lane, my roommate. I attended the event at Local Baskit on my first week here and since then I’m trying to keep up with CYPN’s initiatives. As a foreigner living and working in Concord, CYPN events make it easier for me to meet people, getting closer to the community and engaging in local activities. I believe that by bringing people together CYPN plays an important role in empowering young professionals. Combining efforts, sharing experiences and going through with new ideas, they can make a difference in Concord and have a positive impact in the community.

Who is your greatest role model? My parents and brother. They’re pretty great people and they’ve always had a deep influence on me.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? I am still taking a long-term foodie tour in Concord. I’ve been discovering new places since I got here, but so far, I am deeply surrendered to The Works’ bagels. I also found out about burracos at Dos Amigos (a burrito-taco combination) and immediately became a fan. Overall, I think Main Street has many tasty options to choose from.

What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? I’ve been spending some time at Gibson’s Bookstore and the True Brew Café. It’s a place with lots of light, books and coffee – a great mix. I hope to find my favorite outdoor place when the weather gets better!

Favorite movie of all time? This is not an easy answer since I have a lot of favorites on my list but I am going for the I’m Not There movie about Bob Dylan. It had a good effect on me when I first saw it.

What is one of your life goals? Making a positive impact in society. (I am still elaborating on the best way to do it.)

What has been your favorite CYPN event so far? I would say the first one I attended at Local Baskit because it was my first contact with other young professionals of Concord upon my arrival. I am looking forward to Yoga on Main, though!

If you could visit any country, where would you go? Nepal is on the top of my ‘to go’ list.

Where is the best place you’ve visited? The Amazonian rainforest. I spent a week crossing from Peru to Brazil by boat in the river: sleeping on the net, getting the best sunrise ever and no phones around.

Who would you really like to meet? Julio Cortázar, a writer from Argentina with a particular talent to mix real life with fiction. It would have been great to have insights on his thoughts, but he passed away before I was born.

Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself! Sometimes I have a hard time making jokes in English. I arrived to the U.S. one month ago and I already depend on cream cheese. I have a secret wish to get a New Hampshire moto jacket saying Live Free or Die to take home.
