It’s getting to that time of year when you see signs all over the city pointing you to front yards filled with stuff that the people who live there might not want, but you just can’t possibly live without.
It’s almost like a sign that spring is finally here (even though it seems like it never will be).
And if you’ve been waiting to hit the road for those great deals, no need to do so anymore
This Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the N.H. Homebuilders Association and Builders Care N.H. Foundation is putting on a yard sale at the NHHBA’s 119 Airport Road location.
The yard sale will benefit the Hammers for Veterans program, which provides professional construction related services to eligible New Hampshire veterans and their families.
Renovations to existing residences to accommodate disabilities is of great need in many circumstances. A wheelchair ramp, a remodeled bathroom or the widening of doors can greatly impact the quality of life for veterans.
There will be those items that you tend to see a yard sales: knick-knacks, toys, collectibles, home decor – things of that nature.
But tying in with our theme perfectly, there will also be construction-related materials, like windows, doors, kitchen islands, countertops and more.
“There will be some really good prices on that stuff,” said Jennifer Marquis of the homebuilders association.
Add in some furniture and appliances, and this yard sale will have a little bit of everything. And it just so happens to be for a great cause.
“It’s going to be pretty big,” Marquis said. “Hopefully it will fill the parking lot.”
There will be five raffle items up for grabs with tickets $2 apiece.
And as a nice thank you for those who show up to support the cause, the homebuilders association will be giving away hot dogs and water while you shop.
There has been a lot of success with this program and the goal is to help even more families in need this year. Last year it raised $17,000, which translated into a handful of much-needed projects.
“We’re trying to help as many people as we can, but funding only goes so far,” said Lynette Rogers, president of the NHHBA and chairwoman of the Hammers for Veterans committee.
That’s where you come in. Monetary donations are always accepted, and if you have something for the yard sale you’d like to donate, the N.H. Homebuilders Association is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily this week for drop offs through Thursday. Call 228-0351 if you can’t get there until Friday. No clothing will be accepted and make sure you donate things that people will actually want to buy.
“We’ve helped a lot of people,” Marquis said.
