There’s a trio of author events at Gibson’s bookstore in the next week, which means you have three chances to learn something.
Check these out:
Masheri Chappelle
Kicking off Black History Month, Gibson’s Bookstore is pleased to present New Hampshire Writers’ Project Chairwoman Masheri Chappelle’s new fantastical historical fiction novel, The Oracle Files: Escape.
Cursed by her mother at age 6, Elizabeth Beeson Chase is forced to battle Malachai, an angry West African ghost, as she emerges from slave to Quaker to “Blue Vein” Socialite in the harsh black-and-white world of 1850 New York. With the help of her Quaker father and her spirit guide, she creates a shelter of love wherever she goes. However, the raging storm of racism, the looming threat of slavery, and Malachai’s relentless hauntings pelt her life with indomitable fear. After a painful betrayal sends her running into New York’s dangerous Five Points, she emerges with a gypsy’s secret to battle racism and a way to free herself from Malachai’s ghostly grip. But her new-found freedom comes at a cost she may not be able to afford.
Chappelle will be at Gibson’s on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Alexandra Welch-Zerba and Sheila Welch
Alexandra Welch-Zerba and Sheila Welch join us as storytime special guests, a mother-daughter author-illustrator duo, presenting Animals in My Room, a cozy bedtime story that will delight young readers and celebrate the imagination of children of all ages. As Anna drifts off to sleep, her stuffed animals come to life! What mischief will they get up to before Anna wakes?
The event is Saturday at 11 a.m. It’s free and open to the public.
E. C. Ambrose
Getting a book deal with a major publisher is a big deal. Publishing five books with a publisher is an even bigger deal. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome back New Hampshire’s own Elaine Isaak, writing as E. C. Ambrose, for the fifth and final installment of The Dark Apostle series. A fantastical historical fiction set in the 14th century where barber-surgeon-turned-sorcerer Elisha must save plague-stricken England from its path of destruction – or risk succumbing to the very dark magic he is trying to eradicate, in Elisha Daemon.
Elisha was once a lowly barber-surgeon from the poorest streets of 14th century London; now, he may be the most powerful magus alive. He faces the necromancers, a shadowy cult of magi who draw their power from fear and murder – and who have just unleashed the greatest plague the world has ever known upon a continent already destabilized by wars, assassinations and religious conflict.
Europe has become a bottomless well of terror and death, from which the necromancers drink deep as the citizens sink into despair.
The free event is next Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
