Are you a student in grades 8 through 12? Have you ever thought about learning the sport of crew?
Well, Concord Crew is hosting its annual free Learn to Row Day on Saturday and they want to see you.
In association with U.S. Rowing, Concord Crew invites all students in the above mentioned grades to come by their boathouse between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a tour of the facility, take a spin on their rowing machines and meet the Concord Crew rowers and coaches.
Then if you’re feeling a little frisky, you can head out on the Merrimack to take one of their eight man boats for a ride – with seven other rowers, of course.
And just to be clear, the boats will be led by an experienced coxswain who will be assisted by experienced rowers during your time on the river to ensure you don’t end your day with a swim.
There is no cost to take part in Learn to Row Day, and you don’t need to register for Concord Crew or feel any obligation to join the organization.
They just want to introduce you to a sport that they feel passionate about.
The Friends of Concord Crew is a not-for-profit membership organization. The Concord Crew boathouse is located at 15 Loudon Road, behind Everett Arena.
Concord Crew also offers Summer Learn to Row Camps that allows for new rowers to learn the basics of rowing. The program is skill-based, instructional and provides the perfect opportunity to try out a new sport.
The first session is June 26 to July 20, Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. The second session is July 24 – Aug. 17.
Cost for either session is $275.
