Any time the Suncook Valley Chorale hosts a concert, it’s kind of a big deal. The local, non-audition group made up of 60-plus singers between the ages of 18 and 80-something, only puts on a couple programs a year, so you can imagine the anticipation.
But add in the fact that this weekend’s pair of performances at Wesley United Methodist Church will feature a live orchestra, and it sets the stage for a can’t-miss event.
“It’s been a while since we’ve had one,” said chorale President Candie Garvin.
With Strings Attached is the theme for the group’s spring concert and, as you’ve probably figured out, it has everything to do with having live musicians in the house (or church).
“It’s music that’s both for voice and orchestra,” Garvin said.
The orchestra was put together using a wide range of local and not-so-local musicians, who will come together to play for back-to-back nights.
The lineup of songs is filled with ones that you’ll recognize.
There are Beatles classics like “Eleanor Rigby,” “The Long and Winding Road” and “Got to Get You into My Life.”
There will be some patriotic songs, “Amazing Grace” and many others that you’ll need to go to the concert to hear.
And don’t forget about all the talented singers.
The performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets, which are $15, and $12 for seniors and students, are available in advance from a chorale member, or if you don’t know one, you can get them at the door.
The concerts will be about two hours with an intermission.
“Usually the first half is a little more serious, and then we lighten up the second half,” Garvin said.
