Annual perennial exchange at Audi
The 17th annual perennial exchange opens Concord’s gardening season on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Concord City Auditorium.
Here’s how the perennial exchange works: Perennial plants are ambitious, persistent and wandering. You’ve got a flock of phlox, a host of hosta or a daisy diorama. Dig some up, split them, put them in cans or boxes and bring them down to the Audi to exchange for new varieties.
And, if you’re just starting a garden, there’ll be lots of extra plants for you. Take your new plants home and settle them into your garden.
It’s all to beautify the city’s streetscape, which is getting lovelier every year
You can get advice from the exchange’s perennial master gardeners, buy Mother’s Day mugs and affordable annuals.
There will be a raffle where 10 lucky people will win, as well as coffee and pastries.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of The Audi and Concord’s General Services Dept.
For info, call 344-4747 or visit theaudi.org.

Bach’s Lunch concert Thursday
Take a trip through the “wild worlds” of jazz music at May’s free Bach’s Lunch concert at the Concord Community Music School.
Thursday’s concert features music school faculty members Matt Langley (saxophone), David Tonkin (guitar), Scott Kiefner (bass), and Tim Gilmore (drums). You’ll hear a mix of jazz styles from early New Orleans through today, and learn how rhythms and melodies from Cuba, Africa, Eastern Europe and other places affected music born in America.
Bach’s Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month in the music school’s Recital Hall.
“Musical Migrations” is the theme of this year’s Bach’s Lunch programs, which are an outgrowth of the music school’s leadership work on the Steering Committee of the Welcoming Concord Initiative.
