The Bow Garden Club will open their 2017 garden club year on Monday with a presentation by David Murray of Murray Farms Greenhouses, located in Penacook.
Murray’s topic will be “Understanding New Plants” and he will enlighten attendees with humorous anecdotes, great gardening tips and stories about his life growing up on the farm. Murray Farms began as a dairy farm, started by Murray’s great-grandfather in the early 1900’s, complete with a horse-drawn milk route.
The dairy farm was converted to a chicken farm by his grandfather, Jesse in the 1940s, that hatched up to 60,000 chicks per week for distribution all over the Northeast and Canada at one point. And when the poultry industry collapsed in 1960, the Murray family reinvented themselves, starting over with a retail greenhouse business that is now the largest retail greenhouse in New Hampshire.
The meeting will be held at Bow’s Old Town Hall, 91 Bow Center Road. Social time and refreshments will begin at 6 p.m. followed by Murray’s presentation at 6:30 p.m., which will run approximately one hour, including a question and answer period.
The evening will conclude with a brief business meeting. All are invited to attend, as are guests and/or prospective members. There is no fee for attending.
