Do you like high-flying dunks, trick passes and feeling like you’re part of the action when you attend a basketball game?
Well, the Harlem Wizards are coming to town and you can expect all of that – and then some – when they take over the Bishop Brady gymnasium Jan. 25.
The event is a fundraiser for Jeremy Woodward, who will run for Tedy’s Team for a third straight year in April’s Boston Marathon. Tedy’s Team was started by former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi to raise money for the American Stroke Association and American Heart Association.
“It’s going to be one exciting night,” Woodward said.
And it just so happens, Bruschi will be on the sidelines coaching Team Heart, a group of more than 25 local celebs, teachers and friends of Woodward – as well as Woodward himself.
“It’s going to be kind of cool to see him go from the football field to the basketball court,” Woodward said.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
This is the second year Woodward has hosted the Harlem Wizards for a friendly game to raise funds to meet his goal of raising $10,000, which brought in about $5,400 a year ago. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Whole Health Concord, which has a cardiac focus, it looks like Woodward will easily surpass that total this time around as he was closing in on $5,000 last week – and that’s before ticket sales really got going.
Speaking of tickets, you can purchase them at harlemwizards.com/ schedule-tickets up to midnight the day before the game, and then you can just pick them up at Bishop Brady on game day.
Cost is $12 for students and $15 for general admission. For $20 you can get reserved seating close to the court or $30 will get you courtside seats, along with a few perks.
There will be some tickets available at the door for $15 for students and $18 for adults. But why wait?
“I highly encourage people to buy them ahead of time,” Woodward said. “We definitely will sell out and we’re already ahead of where we were last year for ticket sales.”
