Author event at Gibson’s Sunday
On Sunday at 2 p.m., Zoie Little visits Gibson’s Bookstore to present Black, White, or Other, her first-hand experience growing up with what it feels like to not fit in and be put down because the color of her skin.
Little had to work through the emotional setback of being adopted and knowing her other siblings were not. Black, White, or Other was written to be read by those who have gone through or are going through the same situation that she had and to touch and inspire lives.
The event is free and open to the public.

Poetry society to meet Jan. 18
The Poetry Society of New Hampshire will meet at Gibson’s Bookstore on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. for an open mic night, so bring a poem (39 lines or less)! Your poem, someone else’s poem, it doesn’t matter. All are welcome, and newcomers are encouraged.
The society meets on the third Wednesday of most months.

New parenting after loss program
Concord Regional VNA is offering a “Parenting After Loss” program on Mondays, Jan. 23 through March 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St.
This group is open to anyone grieving the loss of a spouse/partner while still parenting children. Join with others who understand some of the unique challenges associated with parenting after the loss of a spouse or partner. Learn tools for coping with your own grief and techniques to help your children through loss.

Stamp collectors to meet in Bow Jan. 17
The Merrimack County Stamp Collectors will hold its monthly meeting at Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., Bow, on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m.
All who are interested in stamp collecting are welcome to attend. Meet other collectors and learn more about their hobby and varied interests in Philatelic resources and issues.

Bach’s lunch concert Thursday
The rich history, traditions and sound of Nepalese, Bhutanese and Indian music will be featured in Concord Community Music School’s Bach’s Lunch concert Thursday.
Sagar Khatiwada, Harimaya Adhikari and Ranjan Budhathoki, as the Himalaya Heritage Musical Group, will perform a concert titled “Folk, Sacred, and Classical Music of Nepal, Bhutan, and India.”
The music will illustrate traditional folk, classical and more modern music forms played on instruments including the harmonium, tabla and flute, joined by vocal accompaniment.
“Musical Migrations” is the theme of this year’s Bach’s Lunch programs, which are an outgrowth of the music school’s leadership work on the Steering Committee of the Welcome Concord Initiative.
Bach’s Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month in the music school’s Recital Hall, 23 Wall St.

Memory cafe at Granite Ledges
The Capital Area Memory Cafe for memory-impaired individuals and their family members is Jan. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Granite Ledges of Concord, 151 Langley Parkway. The cafe is held on the third Wednesday of each month at the same time. This month’s topic is cafe chat.
Enjoy an opportunity to socialize and build relationships with others who have memory impairment. Family members can speak with healthcare professionals and learn more about resources while their loved ones are engaged in meaningful and supervised activity in a relaxed home-like environment.
Cafes are free and no registration is required. Refreshments are provided.

Blues trio to play True Brew on Friday
Blues rock power trio Gold City Ashes – think ZZ Top meets Gov’t Mule – will play True Brew Barista on Friday starting at 9 p.m.

ConcordTV is hosting a pair of classes this week at its 170 Warren St. studio.

Trail committee to host walk Saturday
Join members of the Concord Trails Committee for a walk in the snowy woods around the beaver pond at Broken Ground on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Bring snowshoes and/or cleats or micro spikes, and a walking pole (or two). The hike is about 1-mile, and should take an hour to an hour and half. If participants desire a longer hike, they may continue on the 2.3-mile loop.
Meet at the Curtisville Road Trailhead (approximately 0.8 miles past Broken Ground School).

Put your Christmas tree at the curb
Concord residents who have curbside trash and recycling collection may place their Christmas tree at the curb for disposal on their regular trash collection day through Jan. 20. All lights, ornaments, tinsel and decorations must be removed from the tree. Wreaths and artificial trees will not be collected.
Residents may also take their Christmas tree to the Transfer Station at 77 Old Turnpike Road during the month of January. The Transfer Station is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
