Exhibit openings at Kimball-Jenkins

There will be a pair of exhibit openings at Kimball-Jenkins this week.

On Thursday, the reception for Linda Cole Johnson will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the opening for the Greater Concord Photo Club’s exhibition and sale on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

VNA to host free film screening

Concord Regional VNA is offering a free screening and discussion of Still Dreaming on Nov. 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Red River Theatres.

There will be a post-documentary discussion. This screening is offered at no charge. Registration is required.

Full lineup at Hatbox Theatre

On Wednesday, the monthly Discovering Magic show with Andrew Pinard will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The Jonathan Lorentz Quartet will perform at Hatbox Theatre on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Greg Boggis Presents . . . an evening of standup comedy withheadliner Chris Zito returns.

On Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Library Living Room, NHTI presents the next event in its Wings of Knowledge lecture series.

Maine pomologist John Bunker, known as the “apple whisperer,” is regarded as the foremost authority on apples in Maine and New England and his presentations are wildly entertaining.

Learn about North Main’s history

The Concord Historical Society, Kimball-Jenkins Estate and Pierce Brigade will host a community conversation about the North Main Historic District in the Kimball-Jenkins mansion on Nov. 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Ward 4 City Councilor Byron Champlin will guide the evening, which will consist of three parts: district history overview, inspiration from other historic districts and open conversation.

St. Paul’s to host pianist concert

On Sunday, the Keiser Concert Series of St. Paul’s School will present concert pianist from St. Paul’s Co-educational College in Hong Kong, Warren Lee.

The concert, which will be held in the Recital Hall in the Oates Performing Arts Center on the St. Paul’s School campus, will begin at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Quilters guild to hold meeting

The Capital Quilters Guild will meet at Havenwood, 33 Christian Ave., on Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. All quilters and friends are welcome to attend.

Our featured speaker will be Kathie Beltz, who will speak on the Deb Tucker tools. There will be a Saturday workshop using the wing clipper.

You can also pick up a stocking or pattern for our Christmas Stocking Project.

This session will equip you with information about Friends Youth Mentoring and introduce you to some best practices. This opportunity is for those who are considering stepping up to help a needy child.

Open house, craft fair Saturday

Friends of Forgotten Children is hosting an open house and craft fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come learn about our program and how we help support those in need year round.

All proceeds from the craft fair help support our Christmas program.

And if you’re worried that you can’t buy Christmas gifts for your child due to financial reasons, sign your child up at Friends of Forgotten Children to receive Christmas gifts.

Free admission for veterans Friday

General admission to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will be free for all veterans, active duty military and their families on Friday for Veterans Day.

Veterans and active duty military and their families are encouraged to bring photographs and memorabilia to share with others in a special “Veterans Corner.”

The general public is also welcome to celebrate Veterans Day at the Discovery Center, with standard general admission costs.

Hair Cuttery to donate proceeds

Hair Cuttery will celebrate the one year anniversary of its grand opening by helping raise money and awareness for Friends of Forgotten Children.

Through Saturday, Hair Cuttery will donate five percent of all proceeds to the charity. The salon is located at 273 Loudon Road in the Loudon Road Center shopping plaza.

Sign up to win free trash bags

Over the last eight years, recycling in Concord has increased by 150 percent. Last year, 5,087 tons of recycling was collected. This compares to 8,867 tons of trash collected last year.

Still, more can be done. Get involved by participating in America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.

America Recycles Day is a nationwide initiative by Keep America Beautiful dedicated to promote and celebrate recycling in the United States. Concord General Services is requesting Concord residents to visit AmericaRecyclesDay.org to take the #BeRecycled pledge now through America Recycles Day.

Concord residents that take the pledge and share it on Facebook or Twitter can have a chance to win a bundle of PAYT trash bags if the post tags Concord General Services (@ConcordNHGS) and uses the hashtag #BeRecycled.
