So much has changed since the first issue came out

If you compare the Concord of today with the Concord of 2006, when our first issue came out, you’ll notice that though a lot is the same, so much of the city has changed.

It’s just a testament to the staying power of community-driven, authentic, local, hard-hitting journalism. Through road projects, bridge projects, parking changes and school makeovers, the one constant Concord has had since 2006 is your trusty Insider.

But this isn’t about us – it’s about what’s gone down in Concord since we first came on the scene. Here’s a quick summary of what’s happened.

Downtown

If you haven’t noticed by now, downtown has undergone a serious makeover over the past couple of years. It started with North Main Street, and now the south side is just about done, too.

This project has turned the classic New England downtown into a modern, hip, totally cool place to hang out. New benches, bike racks and decorations really make the downtown core pop – and in a good way.

Sewalls Falls Bridge

Another big construction project has been that of the Sewalls Falls Bridge. The old clunker that the original Insider team no doubt risked it all to cross is now a thing of the past, replaced with a modern (and good-looking, too) span that – gasp – allows for two-way traffic.

This new bridge, like the project on South Main Street, is just days away from completion now (fingers crossed), a big deal considering the plans for a new bridge go back to the early 1990s. With any luck, the new span will be open to the public any day now, once again opening Monitor and Insider staffers up to the outside world.

Schools

If you’re young enough to still be in school, you’re lucky to be here in Concord, where all of the schools have been massively made over since our first issue. The new schools are state of the art and are just generally pleasant to be in. Students in the old schools probably had to sharpen pencils manually and write on chalk boards!
