Think you can polish off the Taco Gigante?

Jon takes a big bite of his big taco. It looked so promising early on! If only he prepared the way Tim did – by eating pizza at 10:30 a.m. to stretch the stomach.

It’s back.

That’s right Insider faithful, the Taco Gigante returns to Margaritas for just over a month, and it’s about time to see what kind of big food eater you are.

Through Halloween (that’s Oct. 31), you can order the 2-pound behemoth during normal kitchen hours and take your chance at eating immortality.

What is the Taco Gigante you might ask? Well, it starts with a made in-house hard-shell taco, and is stuffed it with all kinds of ingredients. We’re talking seasoned chicken, taco beef, pork carnitas, bacon, lettuce, refried beans, Mexican rice, salsa fresca, cheese and queso sauce. It’s then topped with hacienda and picante sauce, crema and pickled jalapenos and that my friends, is the Taco Gigante. Oh yeah, and it actually does weigh two pounds.

In case you don’t remember, we took the challenge last year, where you have one hour to finish it and let’s just say one of us completed the assignment (and it wasn’t Jon). It took Tim almost the entire hour to finish, which he felt was quite an accomplishment until Ian Holm of the Concord Fire Department demolished his Taco Gigante in two minutes and 57 seconds to defeat the Concord PD. We’ll see if the fire department can repeat as winners in the Battle of the Badge, taking place Tuesday (Oct. 4) when they square off in the Taco Gigante challenge with Concord Police.

And if you happen to be reading this on Tuesday (Oct. 4) it’s national taco day, so it’s the perfect time to step up to the challenge.

Each Taco Gigante is sold for $12.99, with $2 of every purchase donated to Team IMPACT, a national nonprofit based in Boston, whose mission is to match children with life-threatening or chronic illnesses with college sports teams local to their area.
