If you read this paper with any regularity – and we know all of you do – you’ve probably been following the journey from butterfly to egg to caterpillar back to butterfly going on at Cole Gardens.
If you have no idea what we’re talking about, that’s unfortunate, but we’ll fill you in anyway: The garden center brought in a dozen monarch butterflies at the beginning of the summer with hopes that they’d reproduce and create tons of helpful pollinators.
We’ve been documenting the circle of life’s process over there every step of the way, thanks to owner Charlie Cole sending us regular updates.
Now it all comes down to this, the official release party. That’s right, the circle is complete, and the only thing left to do now is turn these new butterflies loose into the world. And here’s the best part – you can all be there to witness it for yourself.
It all goes down at Cole Gardens (430 Loudon Road) from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, with the actual release taking place at 1:30. There will also be a butterfly question-and-answer session with Donna Miller, an expert from Petal in the Pines in Canterbury, running throughout the day. So bring those index cards with all the questions you’ve been dying to ask all summer long – this will be your one chance to get them answered (since we don’t know anything about butterflies, other than they’re pretty).
To top it all off, there will also be a tea party hosted by the Kimball-Jenkins School of Art. You know what they say – you can’t have a butterfly release party at a garden center without a tea party courtesy of an art school. If you want to partake in this sipfest, call 229-0655 to reserve a spot.
