We don’t often refer you to free stuff in this section, so we figured we owed you one by now.
We came up with a timely Go Try It given the weather lately. The beauty of this one is that it’s both fun, cool (assuming you have the luxury of air conditioning at home) and best of all, free.
We’re talking about hitting up Concord Public Library, checking out a movie or two and heading home to enjoy a cool night inside.
Sure, there are tons of fun and worthwhile things doing outside in Concord, but it really doesn’t get much hotter in New Hampshire than it’s been the past week or so, so we thought you might like an idea to try out at home.
The library, it turns out, has a very impressive selection of DVDs – far superior to that of Redbox or even Blockbuster, if any still exist in the world.
All titles are also arranged alphabetically, so it’s not like firing aimlessly through that $5 bin at Wal-Mart. There are plenty of doubles, too, which isn’t a bad thing.
And it’s not just movies – there’s a whole shelf of TV show collections, and that’s where I headed.
Being the gearhead that I am, I wanted to try to find some seasons of Top Gear, the world’s most watched reality program. There are only parts of five seasons on Netflix, and since it’s a British show, it’s tough to find older episodes in the States.
But not at the library. Last week there were two seasons in stock, 10 and 20. I’d seen 20 so I checked out 10, a three-disc set. Every disc worked perfectly and provided about 10 hours of entertainment. Not bad.
You’re allowed to check out up to 10 DVDs at a time from the library, and you can keep them for a week. And because it’s a library, it’s free to check stuff out.
Go try it!
