For this week’s Tasty Brews installment, we went back to Area 23, home of “conspiracy brews and craft theories,” because we always love a good conspiracy beer.
In the mood for something a bit dark, we tried the Unearthed Stout by Long Trail – never heard of it, but the bartender said it was good.
He wasn’t lying.
This beer had a very thick head of foam and a deep, dark brown color. It isn’t as aromatic as one might assume, but the taste sure lives up to the expectation.
Unlike some other stouts we’ve tried around here, this one doesn’t have a specific flavor like coffee or chocolate. This one tastes like beer – and good beer.
It also packs a punch. At 7.9 percent alcohol by volume, this was the most potent beer on tap last week (which may have played a role in the selection process). Unlike many other places, Area 23 doesn’t default to a little kids’ size glass for the stronger beers.
Nope, this one was served in a traditional pint glass, filled to the brim.
Oh yeah, and it only cost $4, just like every other beer on tap at Area 23.
Between the nice appearance, great taste, potency and price, this beer is one you’ll definitely need to check out soon.
