The last time we caught up with Derek and Dylan Thomson, the bicycle riding brothers were in Colorado, and had made it to South Dakota by the time we hit newsstands.
And since we promised to keep you posted about the duo’s journey across the country, from San Francisco to Seabrook, to raise money for the Connolly Tough Fund using the name Cycling the US for ALS, we decided to check in to see what kind of progress they had made over the last couple weeks.
And if the live tracking on their website is accurate, these two have been cruising right along.
As of Monday this week, the Thomsons were starting the day in Canada after crossing the border the day before on their way to Niagra Falls. Over the last two weeks since we last social media stalked them, Derek and Dylan had passed the midway point of their journey, cruised through Nebraska (after some bike trouble), Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. They had crossed the Missippi River and even caught a glimpse of their first Dunkin’ Donuts. Before you know it, they’ll be pumping their way through New York and Vermont, on their way to New Hampshire.
They have raised close to $14,000 of their $20,000 goal for the Connolly Tough Fund, which supports retired Concord High School principal Gene Connolly and his family.
The goal is to finish the 4,500-mile journey on July 9 with a ceremonial front tire dip in the Atlantic Ocean in Seabrook.
