It might be a while before fresh vegetables from your backyard gardens make it to your dinner plate, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Well, actually, the Concord Farmers Market has you covered. Because as of this Saturday, the weekly summer gathering of local goods is back for yet another season.
The market returns to its traditional location on Capitol Street, next to the State House, and is opening a week earlier than a year ago.
“We’re trying to shorten the gap between the winter market and the summer market,” said President Wayne Hall.
And in case you weren’t aware, Concord is one of the oldest farmers markets in the state. So on any given Saturday, you’ll find up to 40 vendors with all kinds of products for sale. That includes local farmers with fruits and veggies, bakers serving up breads and pastries, and meat producers, well, selling meat. You can also find potted plants, body care products, honey, maple syrup, jams and anything else you’ve seen at a farmers market.
If you’re a market regular, you’ll notice some new stuff this year and for those of you who read this and go for the first time, there will be lots to choose from.
“It won’t be as vast a selection as in the summer, but it will be a great selection,” Hall said.
You might not think that would be the case this early in the season, but Hall assured us it will be worth the visit.
“Our vendors are trying new ideas to provide a fresh product quicker,” Hall said.
