If you’re into live music but you’re tired of the bar scene, you might want to head over to the Concord City Auditorium this weekend to check out something a little different.

Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play will play Saturday night, and the show will likely be unlike anything you’ve seen. For starters, there’s no drummer; the band features vocals, guitar, harmonica, bass, piano and trombone – and sometimes a little jaw harp, too.

The group is led by frontman Chris Brubeck. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because his dad, Dave Brubeck, was a big player in the jazz scene in the 1950s and ‘60s. And Chris doesn’t let that name recognition go to waste – his Triple Play performs different versions of some of his late father’s songs, including “Take Five.”

The band also features Peter “Madcat” Ruth, who Brubeck calls “one of the greatest harmonica players in the world,” and Joel Brown, a classically trained guitarist who can play anything.

When the three combine, it’s a nonstop swingfest that you won’t want to miss.

The show, presented by the Concord Community Concert Association, is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Audi. Tickets are $18 and are available at Gibson’s Bookstore, the UPS Store and at the door. For more information, call 344-4747.
