There’s some cool stuff on the horizon in Concord

And we had to let you know about it!

We know it’s only March, but the reality is that spring is around the corner. And that’s a good thing. Bye-bye winter, better luck next year.

Since this is the Insider Guide to Spring and there’s always lots of great stuff going on in Concord once the weather warms up, we figured why not key in on a few important dates that are coming up in the next couple months – before summer gets here.

Don’t worry, we won’t expect you to remember all of this information and there won’t be a test at a later date. Like ever other year, we’ll remind you right before things happen, but it sure is fun to take a look into the future.

Concord Farmers Market

It’s like you can almost taste the fresh fruits and veggies.

The farmers market operates every Saturday, beginning May 7 through the last Saturday in October, from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Capitol Street.

The farmers market began in the summer of 1981 in the parking lot of the New Hampshire Savings Bank, now the Attorney General’s office. The market moved to its current location on Capitol Street next to the State House in 1988.

With about 40 vendors, there’s a wide selection of bakery products, meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, fish, honey and maple products. Many of the vendors are certified organic. There’s also potted plants, cut flowers, wood products, dog treats and body care products.

Rock ‘N Race

A special fundraising road race that benefits the Payson Center for Cancer Care will be held May 19 at 6 p.m., starting at the State House Plaza.

Concord Arts Market

The market runs on Saturdays, starting June 4 and running until the end of September, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The market venue, Bicentennial Square, is free to the public, and wheelchair accessible. Parking is free on weekends and Concord Farmers’ Market is also open just two blocks away.

Concord Arts Market features the work of local and regional artists and artisans. Jewelry, handbags, pottery, paintings, note cards, clothing and more will be for sale.

Penacook Farmers’ Market

Held at Rolfe Homestead, 11 Penacook St., the Penacook Farmers’ Market is held on Mondays, with the first one on June 6 and running through August, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Vegetables, fruits, flowers/plants, maple, baked goods, meat, salsa and crafts are available.

Market Days

For the second year in a row, Market Days will be held in June, this year running June 23-25.

It’s a three-day extravaganza that you surely don’t want to miss. Considering this will be the first one with North Main Street completely redone.

Main Street construction

The South Main Street face-lift will begin March 28. Construction will begin on the east side of the street, from Pleasant Street to Concord Street, and northbound traffic will be closed.

Construction hours will be the same as last year, typically 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays.

Concord city pools

The city’s seven outdoor pools will open for the season on Saturday, June 18. And each Concord/Penacook child will be able to receive a two-week session of swim lessons (eight classes) for free through sponsorship from the Concord Housing + Redevelopment Authority. Pre-registration is required for all swim lessons and registration will begin May 10.

Multicultural Festival

The 10th annual event will be held Saturday, June 25 on the State House Lawn, from 2 to 6 p.m. Celebrate the diversity of the capital region with ethnic foods, cultural performances and engaging activities.
