Music school student performs at nationals
Concord Community Music School voice student Nathan Smith was selected to perform in the National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Choir in Nashville, Tenn., following a nationally competitive audition process.
The choir performed in a gala concert celebrating music education and the arts at the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Oct. 28, as part of the 2015 NAfME National In-Service Conference. Smith, a tenor, joined 325 high school age singers for the festival.
“It was such an incredible experience, and I was honored to be the only student from New Hampshire at this festival,” said Smith. “It was worth all the hard work practicing the pieces. I had such a great time there doing what I love with people who love it just as much.”
All-National Honor Ensembles students are selected through a competitive audition process. All qualified for their state-level All-State honor ensemble program, and went on to compete against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles. The ensembles consist of about 670 high school musicians in a concert band, orchestra, mixed chorus and jazz ensemble.

Charlie McCaffrey earns Jo Adcock Service Award
The New Hampshire Association for the Blind’s Client Services Committee has awarded the 2015 Jo Adcock Service Award to Charlie McCaffery. Since 2001, McCaffery has been providing volunteer assistance to the association and our clients mainly as a driver to group programs, doctor visits, food shopping, etc. For 14 years his dependability has not wavered. Every client likes him immediately because of his quick wit, patience and warm friendly personality. Many clients directly ask for McCaffery because they can count on him to make them laugh or lift their spirits when needed.
Adcock served as an active member of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind from 1996 to 2007. Adcock demonstrated outstanding volunteer leadership in assisting the Association in developing state of the art services and programs for the blind. Prior to moving to New Hampshire in 1995, she was appointed by the governor of Idaho to serve as chairwoman of the Idaho State Commission for the Blind.
