Old Home Day is Sunday

And there’s going to be entertainment!

The Heights Community Old Home Day is just around the corner. It will be held rain or shine Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The event takes place at Keach Park and the Heights Community Center off Canterbury Road.

There’s still time to take part in the Junior Miss Concord Heights pageant, which is open to girls from the Concord area ages 7 to 12 years old, as well as the Heights You’ve Got Talent Show and the Best in Pie Contest.

Pageant entrants will be judged on: Best costume/dress/best smile; a 3- to 5-minute talent exhibition and most poised (asked several simple questions by judges.) The first place winner will take home a cash prize of $100, the title as Junior Miss Concord Heights, a tiara and sash (reign to last one year) and a ride in the Heights Christmas Parade. The runner-up wins $50 and a tiara and ride in Heights Christmas Parade.

All other entrants will earn a small gift bag. The pageant will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m. with pre-hair and makeup station available at 11:30 a.m.

The You’ve Got Talent Show runs from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. and is open to any one who wants to perform from the Concord-area and surrounding towns. There will be three guest judges scoring your 3 to 5 minute performance. There will be a PA system and microphones set up available and performances will be performed on ground level.

There are two age groups: Group A (6 years to 15 years old) and Group B: (16 years and older). You can perform as a duo/small group and there will be cash prizes for the top three.

And if you feel like making your best pie, you should cause you can win a ribbon/money if you land in the top three. Judging will take place at 1:30 p.m. with the winner announced at 2:30 p.m.

The most senior Heights (only) resident past or present will be crowned and awarded the 2015 Heights Community cane, along with a crown, gift card, flowers and a badge.

The Back-2-Back Band and the Club Soda will provide the musical entertainment for the day, starting at 2 p.m. on the main stage.

There will also be a host of children’s activities for the whole family in the pumpkin patch, including pumpkin face painting, pumpkin carving, scarecrow making, hula hooping and sack races.
