Officially, Sonia Wilks is the Concord Boys and Girls Club teen center director and the Torch Club advisor. To the members of Torch Club, Wilks is the North East Region Torch Club advisor of the year, and shedoesn't plan on stopping there.
Wilks recently received the North East Region Torch Club Advisor of The Year award after the Drop the Pounds Project, which consisted of an eight-week fitness program with the Torch Club and Staples to raise awareness of obesity in America. The Torch Club has also done numerous community service projects and fundraising events that have been led by Wilks, one of them receiving an award and achievements throughout the school year.
Wilks said that the Torch Club has been brainstorming ideas for their national project, which will consist of a “Feed the Children” event and other various nationwide service projects.
Torch Club is a program that is run throughout the school year and has weekly meetings discussing ideas and upcoming events.
Wilks also has some involvement with the Keystone Club, which is a lot like Torch Club but for teens that attend the Concord Boys and Girls Club.
“Sonia is a really good Torch Club advisor because she is very ambitious and never gives up. She always seems to get stuff done for Torch Club” said Amelia Lawrence, club secretary.
“It's not just me doing things for Torch Club; (the kids) think of most of the ideas, I just find how to make it work,” Wilks said.
