Firemen honor 9/11
we will never forget
Several off-duty members of the fire department participated in commemorations of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Aspell writes. Members of the department's honor guard were present at the official statewide memorial last Sunday morning, the community interfaith service at the State House Plaza, a late afternoon commemoration at the Capitol Center for the Arts, and the “100 Nights of Remembrance” ceremony at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
The members who participated included Stephen Lorenze, Roman Bastek, Michael Langille, Christian Lund, John McBride, John Marcel, Thomas Nault, Bradley Newbery, Adam Morris, Kenneth Folsom and David Reed (retired). Firefighter Matthew Cole also participated in the statewide Firefighters Pipe and Drum Band Corps. Three members of the fire department participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Manchester, including Tom Friere, Chris Golomb, and Chris Johnson. The event raised more than $24,000 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Next up? Sidewalks
After last week's completion of base pavement along the Route 3 corridor, Aspell writes, the contractor's efforts will be focused on installation of guard rails, vertical granite curbing, and construction of sidewalk on North State Street. This work will occur in the area of the Hood plant, from Dolan Street to the city's combined operations maintenance facility just north of the state prison. Traffic delays will continue in this area, as one-lane traffic conditions will persist during these operations.

Paving continues
Last week, Pike Industries completed the shims on Elm and Rockingham streets, as well as the finish paving on Badger Street, Springfield Street and Thayer Pond Road, Aspell writes. This week, they will start raising covers on Blake, Elm and Rockingham streets in anticipation of finish paving later in the week or the beginning of the following week, depending on weather conditions. They will also start to pave driveway aprons this week and begin final cleanup on the streets that have been finish paved.

Water project begins
The Penacook water main cleaning and lining project will begin this week, with the contractor installing temporary water mains on Community Drive, Steeple View, Cross Street, Summer Street, Shaw Street and High Street. Minor traffic delays are to be expected.
