The annual American Cancer Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” 5-mile walk takes place on Oct. 16. Of the eight locations that hold yearly walks in New Hampshire, Concord's is the largest, having raised over $500,000 toward breast cancer research each year since 2007. New Hampshire is, per capita, the top fundraising state nationwide, and the local chapter hopes that this year is no different.
Want to get involved? Register online at cancer.org/stridesonline or vist one of the following Concord locations to pick up a registration form:
Concord Camera Store
Einstein's Bagels
D. McLeod Florist
The Red Blazer
Once you're registered, it's time to start doing some fundraising. If you raise $75, you get a long-sleeve “Making Strides” t-shirt, but of course any contribution at all helps. Then, all you have to do is show up on Oct. 16 and let your feet do the talking.
The walk starts at Memorial Field, off of South Fruit Street. Parking is available on the Governor Hugh Gallen Parkway, which can hold 1,500 vehicles. You'll want to enter the parkway from Pleasant Street or Clinton Street. There will be pink signs and attendants there to assist you.
Shuttle buses to the event will be running from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. from the following locations:
Sanborn, Head & Associates at Exit 16 off Interstate 93.
Rundlett Middle School parking lot, 144 South St.
There will be a courtesy bus available along the route for those wanting a ride back to Memorial Field. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, but leave your dogs, scooters, bikes and roller blades at home.
Over the next few Insider pages, we will showcase some of the amazing testimonials that past Concord Making Strides walkers have shared with the American Cancer Society.
Happy walking, everybody!
