Name: Kevin Clark
Title: busker
How long have you been playing music?
Since I was 5, so a long time. And I've been a busker in Concord since the end of August.
What is your ultimate goal? Becoming a recording artist or doing it for the love of music?
I just play for fun.
What's the most money you've ever made in one day? And how much do you collect on an average day?
The most money I've made in one day was during Halloween Howl, and I made about $18 during the day and $28 at night. On an average day, I'll make $10 or $12.
What's the strangest thing anyone has ever thrown in your case?
I got a couple of religious pamphlets. And during Halloween Howl the kids were giving me some of their candy. But to them that's as good as money. And one day a group of 15 people was walking around giving free hugs. I played a song and recited a poem I like. They gave me a donation, but every single one of them gave me a hug. That brightened my day.
If you could play with the Salvation Army bell ringer on one song, what would it be?
I'm not really into Christmas songs. Maybe “Eve of Destruction.”
Any famous buskers or musicians that you were inspired by?
My favorites are John Denver, Neil Diamond, Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen.
How cold would it have to be for you to stay home for the day?
It depends. There was one day a few weeks ago when it was 43, but the wind was blowing like crazy. I wasn't out here too long. But a few days later it was in the mid-30s and calm, and I stayed all day.
Busker is a weird word. What would you call yourself?
I guess a busker or a street performer. Definitely not a pandhandler. If people want to give me something, that's fine. But it's always up to them, I never ask.
