Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell walks the parapets of a lonely tower, waiting for his knight in shining armor to rescue him. Finally, he collapses, and his soul rushes from his body and ascends as steam, leaving behind only a city memo on a bit of tattered parchment.
Water work begins
feeling flush
The General Services Department began its annual flushing of the water mains April 2, Aspell writes. Water customers may experience low pressure and discolored water when flushing occurs in their immediate neighborhood. It is recommended that customers do not wash clothes during the scheduled times. Streets completed April 2 were North State Street, from Knight Street to Franklin Street, and Rumford Street to Main Street; North State Street from Hutchins Street to Penacook Street; North State Street. from No. 519 to Fisherville Road; and Fisherville Road from First Street to No. 197.
This week's flushing will occur in the following areas:
April 3: Franklin Street to Centre Street; North Main Street to Spring Street; all side streets off North State Street from Hutchins Street to Penacook Street; Sewalls Falls Road from No. 24 to No. 163; Second Street; Cardinal Ridge; and Otter Drive.
April 4: Main Street from Centre Street to West Street; North State Street from Centre Street to Allison Street; South Main Street from West Street to Allison Street; North State Street and side streets from Rumford Street to Bouton Street; and West Village, Abbott Road, Bean Street, and Hobart Street in the Manor area.
April 5: Centre Street to Pleasant Street; North State Street to Spring Street; Highland Street to Washington Street; Jackson Street to Charles Street; Penacook Street; Merrimack Street; and Rolfe Street.
April 6: Pleasant Street to Clinton Street; South Street to Spring Street; Franklin Street to Centre Street; and Liberty Street to Auburn Street.

No overnight parking
Spring street sweeping will begin in mid to late April, Aspell writes. In order for the city to perform street sweeping work, parking on city streets between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. will not be permitted from April 29 through May 12. Kiosks keep cranking
The city's parking kiosks reached one million transactions Feb. 29, Aspell writes. After the first full year with the kiosks we reached 548,744 transactions, and with the increase from our August 2010 installation of the kiosks in the Durgin Block parking garage, we have completed more than one million transactions! We are on target for approximately 674,500 transactions this fiscal year.

Leave your leaves
The Fort Eddy Road Reprocessing Center, operated by Gelinas Excavation, opened for the season April 2, Aspell writes. Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will also be open, weather permitting, on six consecutive Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to noon, starting April 14 and ending May 19. Only unbagged leaves may be dropped off free of charge.
