Carson Morton
2011, 340 pages
Fiction
Confidence man Eduardo de Valfierno assembles a varied group to pull off the ultimate crime – stealing the Mona Lisa. He engages an artist to make copies of the masterpiece, for part of his plan is to sell copies to wealthy businessmen who think that they are buying the original.
Valfierno prides himself on not getting attached to people, but keeps thinking about Mrs. Hart, the wife of one of the businessmen. Will the crew be able to pull off the theft of this most famous painting? A double-cross, a horrific flood and a jealous husband put the plan and the group in deadly jeopardy.
This caper is based on the actual theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911 and has wonderful descriptions of Paris at that time.
