I am just writing to say I really enjoyed the main article on trash in this week's Insider. Waste management has always fascinated me, whether it be garbage disposal, sewage disposal, or recycling. I found the article to be both entertaining and satisfied my curiosity on what happens once I kick my garbage to the curb. Thank you!
A recycling issue
Your article today in the Insider on trash was informative – to a point. As a faithful recycler who separates plastic, glass, and paper into separate bins, I watch every Monday morning in my South End neighborhood the Bestway boys throw all the recyclables in together.
Many of my neighbors gave up long ago and simply put all their recyclable materials into a single bin, which, it appears, is all that is required.
Whether these recyclable materials get sorted out later somewhere down the line is the nagging question. If they don't, what in the world becomes of them?

(Here's your answer: Concord practices dual-stream recycling, which means that cans and bottles should be separated from paper products. There is no need to separate cans and bottles into their own bins; they may stay together.
It's also fine to put your paper recyclables on top of the glass-and-plastic bin, as long as it's clearly separated and not mixed in.
