Last year's Concord Arts Market Pet Day featured the inaugural canine mayor of Concord rlection. After hundreds of votes, Victoria the Bassett Hound with a Cause and Nelson the Great Dane were named co-canine mayors for 2011. The citizens of Concord and the visitors to Pet Day must elect the next canine mayor of Concord on Sept. 15. Last year, there was an outcry from feline fanciers, who demanded that they be allowed their own election, so this year we are happy to announce the first feline mayor of Concord election. The canine and feline mayoral elections are a fundraiser for the day's participating animal rescue groups.
Both elections will be held in Bicentennial Square during Pet Day on Sept. 15, and votes may be cast between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Canine candidates must appear at Pet Day (and be photographed for propaganda purposes in the event of an election win!) between 9 and 10 a.m. It is important that you bring a photo of your dog. There is no registration fee, and also no minimum voting age for the contest – all humans and dogs may cast one vote. Of course, because in America you can buy anything, in this election, you can buy votes. In fact, you must buy your votes and each vote will cost $1. All funds raised through the voting process will be distributed directly to the day's participating animal rescue groups.
The feline election will take place at the same time, though votes may be cast online (concordartsmarket.com/feline-candidates-gallery-of-distinguished-cats.html) or from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pet Day. Submit a photo of your cat via email to kbsolsky@granitestateartsmarket.com. Photos of cat candidates will be posted in the Feline Candidates Gallery of Distinguished Cats for the online voting process, which will run up to the time of Pet Day. Feline candidates are not required to appear in person at Pet Day, but you can register your feline candidate at Pet Day between 9 and 10 a.m. Don't forget to bring a photo of your cat for display. Voting rules are the same as the canine contest. And yes, cats may vote by “absentee ballot” by having their humans cast a vote for them. For the purposes of the feline election, payment for votes may be made online via PayPal or in person at Pet Day.
