Charlie Grant believes she will be murdered on Jan. 21, but she isn't going downwithout a fight. She has trained hard to make sure of that. Her two best friends were murdered on that date a year apart and no suspect was found. When she was 8 years old, she was taken to live with her aunt in New Hampshire. There are definitely things about her childhood that she remembers, like the mother and her abuse, but other memories keep tugging at her brain – things she can't quite bring into focus.
Boston Sergeant Detective D. D. Warren is just back to work following maternity leave. Her first case involves chasing down a murderer of pedophiles. Worse yet her parents are coming to town to see their grandson and hopefully convince her to get married.
When Grant says she wants Warren to investigate the crime scene after her murder because she's the best detective for the job, Warren is immediately suspicious and believes Grant isn't telling her the whole story. Can Warren find out what is happening before Grant is murdered? Together they only have four days to find out.
