You are invited to experience the powerful spirit of a most extraordinary day. Join our Concord community at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Oct. 19. Making Strides raises money to support the American Cancer Society – the leader in the fight to end breast cancer, and all cancers.
While raising funds for the American Cancer Society is crucial, there is so much more to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer experience. It provides the opportunity to spend a New England autumn day with family and friends. For many, it is a day to reflect and remember those in our hearts whose lives have been taken by this disease. It is a day to honor survivors as they celebrate and realize the healing and strength of others who have shared their journey. Making Strides here in Concord is a powerful day of hope and inspiration and because of this, Concord was rated No. 1 in Participant Overall Experience out of all 300 Making Strides events countrywide.
The Survivor Outreach at Making Strides provides a meaningful experience for cancer survivors and their families. At the Survivor Place tent, trained volunteers, who are survivors themselves, will greet survivors with sensitivity and understanding. Inside, survivors can rest on comfortable chairs and sofas while enjoying conversation, resources and activities. The Survivor Walk could possibly be the most powerful moment of the day – a time when survivors walk in unity from Survivor Place to the front stage for their Survivor Photo. This walk begins with bittersweet emotion and ends with jubilation and cheers of celebration.
Making Strides is a family event – as is cancer. For my family, this year will be particularly meaningful, as this will be our 10th Making Strides event. Our first Making Strides was just months after finishing cancer treatments, and it meant so much for me to have my husband, daughters, sons-in-law and very young grandchildren standing by my side as we celebrated the end of a long and difficult year of cancer surgeries and treatments. My family has been with me every year since that first Making Strides in 2005, and those young grandchildren are becoming teenagers and fundraisers as well!
Please join us Oct. 19 and embrace a Pink Memorial Field, a field filled with hope! Experience this powerful and memorable day – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Concord.
